Three years ago today me & my wife rescued our boy Buddy. While we can only "guesstimate" his Birthday (early January), we know when his anniversary with us is. Awesome companion!

Funny story: The night we went to the shelter (Sean Casey Animal Rescue, wonderful people) in Brooklyn, we were introduced to a 65lb. 10 month old puppy. He jumped up with his paws on my chest and licked my face. He turned, jumped up and licked my wife the same way while relieving himself on her leg. She looked at me and said "He chose us!" He's been a part of us from day one. Wonderful companion, fearless guard dog. German Shepherd/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. Incredible combination.

All of our pets have been rescued. Those indeed are the best, and my favorite, breeds!

He's such a mush with our family & friends, but he has a serious side that keeps strangers at a distance. He's filled out to about 110lbs. and I'm fortunate we spent the effort in training him. He can be a handful, but we both work and the house is empty all day long. A routine that would be noticed.... No one in their right mind is coming into our home un-invited.

But he does love belly rubs from me!

Beautiful beast there for sure!

My stinky beagle is a rescue from Hurricane Rita. Went looking and he chose me. It'll be 8 years on December 15 for us. He has been with me through two wives, three houses, two states and a 1730 mile move.

In fact all my dogs were rescued in one way or another. I found them while working and brought them home.

Very NICE rescue there John, cool story too, one of my co-workers and her husband rescued a Pit bull and he is a real hamm, but I would not want to be the one who entered their house alone, it would not be pretty YIKES! they would become an instant scooby snack!! :o:D

GREAT story!

As the saying goes...A house without a dog is just a house, but a house with a dog is a home.

I'll NEVER pay a breeder for a companion!

I completely agree! There are way to many dogs in shelters all over world. Our current dog, Rider, was our first rescue and we will never go to a breeder again. It absolutely kills me to walk through a shelter, I wish I could help all of them, but I know we did our part by saving one dog from a life of misery. That is one of the few things that really gets me right in the heart, to see a dog, cat, or any animal for that matter so depressed and sad in a cage like that. I know shelters do all they can, but it is still tough. Good on everyone who adopts, it really is the smart choice.
