Customman
Lookin good Adam, the interior washes and the IP standout. Looks like your going to make the little toad look respectable! Edited December 4, 2013 by Customman
Faust
Charlie, the colour for the interior is Model Master Acrylic Dark Tan. It's a bit lighter in the photos than it is in real life. I wouldn't use it for camel, really. I'd use MMA Sand with a bit of brown in it, it's closer. I don't know why (I'm no photog...) but it looks a bit more orangey in the photo than on my bench. It reality, there's a bit more darkness and brownness to it. Perfect for a Civic, though (hint, hint...) If you added a bit of light grey to the MMA Dark Tan, you'd likely get a camel colour too. Thanks for the comments on the washes, too. They're actually not washes at all; they're chalk pastel lolights that I do after I paint everything. The carpet is then re-drybrushed the interior colour on the "high spots" to give the carpet some depth. I tried washing, but I just don't know how to control it. The pastels, on the other hand, work like magic and I can completely control them.
Skydime
Adam, that's what's beautiful about modeling. Everyone has their own little tricks and ways of doing things.
Faust
Amen to that, Ken! That's the best part about forums and the like, too; getting to see how people do things and picking up tips and tricks along the way. I got the chalk idea from railroad guys; a few guys I know use the same method for doing rust and stains on rolling stock. It never ceases to amaze me how you can use so much stuff from different "disciplines" of modelling!
Bonekrosha
Awesome so far. Please more pics. I have a few of these I'll get to eventually. I have a GNX kit waiting to give up it's Turbo V-6, wheels, etc. Right now I'm working on my Son's (16) 1st real car, an 85 Chevette. My 1st car was a lima bean green 79 Chevette. My boy's car is a lot prettier.
Faust
Oh man, turbo V6 Chevette is awesome! What a brilliant idea! When I get the Engine and Chassis done, I'll get some more pics up, and I'll have a full writeup when she's all finished off. I like your son's car, too! I must say, I'm amazed that Chevettes, that were so maligned when they were new, seem to have such a following. I'm really impressed, and I've got a lot more respect for this little buggy now! I think you need to drop a LS1 into one and see what happens.
fantacmet
I'd love to do one and drop in a 500CID Caddy engine like hotrod magazine did once. WOW Lookin good.
Bonekrosha
Actually, I told my boy if he will take care of it and keep it together we are going to put an LS in it. I beat my Chevette like crazy but never wrecked it I looked for a looong time before I found this one. Prices on 1:1 Chevette are pretty ridiculous even for beat up rusty cars. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your Vette.
Faust
LS Chevette! Rock on! The ultimate kitbash, and in the best scale: 1/1! I find it hard to believe these things are commanding any price at all, but then in 1970, a '57 Chev was just an old beater, too! Chevette nation will rise! I'm working on the mighty 1.6L mill right now. Just got things into primer and ready for paint.
Bonekrosha
One sold on e-bay the other day, a "survivor" for more than 10 grand. There is a 4-door on there right now for 4 grand plus and rising.
Faust
Wow. A $10K Chevette. I imagine people never thought that day would come! That's more than I paid for my Trans Am! Of course, that was 13 years ago, but still, a Chevette's only half the car!
Bonekrosha
The one I mentioned last was up to $5700 !!!!
Tom Geiger
The one I mentioned last was up to $5700 !!!! and it's a diesel!
Faust
DUDE!! Diesel Chevette? I didn't even know that was an option! I can't believe that it's not into the $10K+ region now! Nothing spells GM fail like a diesel Chevette. It's so terrible it's awesome, except for things like performance, reliability, black smoke plume and "pocket full of buttons in a tumble dryer" clattering sound. So epic it hurts. I wish they made the kit with a Diesel. Now I'm a bit sad inside...
Craig Irwin
GM used an Isuzu engine in the Chevette, a friend of mine had great luck with his.
Tom Geiger
Diesel Chevette? I didn't even know that was an option! Yea! Check it out on the 'bay! It's not as bad as the GM Diesel full size cars, at least this was an Isuzu diesel, which may stand a chance at not tearing itself apart, but surely won't set speed records. I remember that a guy on one of the boards said his first car was a diesel Escort and it couldn't get out of it's own way. I accidently rented a regular Escort back in the 80s and zero to sixty was probably a minute! I felt so bad I wanted to go apologize to all the Escort drivers I had yelled at for being in my way... they couldn't help it!

Faust
It’s time for another Chevette update. I’m getting a lot closer to getting this little guy done, and soon he’ll be terrorizing the 1/25 motorways! Of course, to do that, he needs an engine, and that’s what I’ve gotten done now. I also have the chassis done, since I have to have somewhere to put the engine, right? Check it out here! http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/chevette-update-3-foundations-of-power/'> http://adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2013/12/18/chevette-update-3-foundations-of-power/
Tom Geiger
Looks like you're coming right along! Love the engine detail and you are right about the MPC engines of the era. I felt similar about the MPC Cavalier engine bay!
knarf
nice work...chevettes rock i've owned 8 of them in 1:1 Edited December 18, 2013 by knarf
Faust
Man, 8 1/1 Chevettes! They must rock! I'm, pretty impressed, overall, with the car, and the things I've learned about it. Sure, I love to chide it and make fun of it, but I've seen way more Chevettes on the road, still, than I have early to mid 80's Hondas, Toyotas or even Escorts. Tom: You're right about the Cavalier. It has a really nice engine bay and a beautiful engine, too. I should get it posted sometime, I guess, eh?
Bonekrosha
Looking great! My old Chevette wasn't a rocket by any means but it would do one heck of a burnout. Also, my front shocks were pretty worn so I would drop it into 1st and jump on and off the gas. Around "Hop" #4 the front tires would actually come off the ground a few inches. Since it was green everybody called it the frog. I had spun aluminum "Salt Flat" disc wheel covers and whenever I pulled up to my buddies, if I didn't get out of the car fast enough to stop them, they'd grab the luggage rack on the roof and rock the car side to side until the discs popped off. I'm actually really looking forward to getting my son's car going. Shoot, I think you've inspired me to put down my 1/16th scale projects and do a couple Chevettes I have waiting around to get built. Please keep up the updates Adam!
