Pete L. Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Fellas, I just got my PROSHOP Electra 225 from an ebay auction. The kit was sealed as was the chrome tree and the other parts which leads me to my question. Has anyone opened their new kit of the 225 only to find that the front bumper/grille has "sagging" chrome plating below the lower grille opening ? thank you, Pete L.
Mark Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The Pro Shop kits were made in 1998, towards the end of production in Mexico. AMT/Ertl produced kits there from about 1995 to 1999, and never did get their act together. Saggy, wrinkly plating in some kits was the main problem during that era. Racing Champions took over the operation and moved production to China, most likely because they had done everything else there prior to buying into Ertl. I checked a Pro Shop kit on the shelf; there is some sagging but most of it is in an area that could be covered by adding a front license plate. The Round 2 reissue has noticeably better plating.
Pete L. Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 Mark, Thanks for the info, I'll have to remember that in the future so I don't fall victim to again. Pete L.
charlie8575 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 It's been a while since I looked at mine, but I don't think mine had that problem. If you'd like, I did pick up a 2010-ish issue for parts. I needed the valve-covers and air-cleaner (which need to be stripped anyway for a stock 401), but I could probably be persuaded to part with any components you need. Let me know. Charlie Larkin
ChrisBcritter Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Maybe keep me in mind for leftovers too - I bought a gluebomb original issue about a year before they reissued it (thought for sure those molds were gone...). Did the same thing with the '59 Imperial. Maybe I'm cursed?... You think if I spend a bunch of money on a '60 Mercury the molds will turn up?

How much inducement would it take for you to do so?? Seriously, I like the 1960 Mercury- nice-looking car. That's one I'd buy a few of, especially if 3-4 different body styles were offered. Edsel-Dan Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I have 2 of the 62 Electra 225 Pro-Shop & Retro Deluxe. Neither have any chrome issues. Only kit I have with that is the Trumpeter 60 Bonneville. 3 chrome trees. 2 Matt finish and one Gloss, but BLUE/Dark tint!!!!
