Zarana-X Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 These are kinda crappy photos, the batteries were about to die. I've got the cockpit/fuselage and Intake/shoulders pretty much under way and the head about 1/2 painted.
mustang1989 Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) The detail looks good in that pit Jason. What scale is this? It looks to be around 1/72nd judging by the pilot against the paint bottles. Edited August 12, 2014 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Ok fellas. Update................finally!! I rolled her over and started on the bottom side. All of the wing mounted bombs had ejector pin marks that needed to be filled and sanded and the centerline bomb (being 8 parts) was tougher than normal but we are getting there. There's just the last few bits at this point like canopy, prop, and all the fiddly bits and this puppy will be wrappped up. Edited August 12, 2014 by mustang1989

This is 1/48th. It is an old Imai mold. There is a newer, non-transforming 1/72 version. Can't remember who made the new one.
Agent G Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Jason that is an interesting vehicle for sure! I like where you are going with this. Joe don't ya just hate pin marks? The Stuka is looking good. Here's some quickie pics of the paint job so far. Tamiya OD base. The unique camo applied to the turret. The plywood armor. All the detail painting so far is Vallejo with a smattering of oils. G
mustang1989 Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 (edited) Thanks Wayne! Your schemes just keep getting more and more intense. Nice job on replicating that pattern. ....and yes I really do dislike pin marks. lol Funny thing about this kit. The only real place Hasegawa boo boo'd with pin marks was on the bombs if you ask me. It did have some fit issues at the nose to fuselage fit and the seam lines on the landing gear wheel spats was horrible. LOTS of clean up there! Will hopefully be finished with this puppy by this weekend. I'm going to put a strong push forward on it. I've got a BMW R75 to build you know........................ Its the good ol' Bandai kit. Man it's a beauty too. Edited August 15, 2014 by mustang1989
mustang1989 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Just finished this puppy up this morning. Man I'll tell you guys, this thing took forever to finish it seems like and I didn't even open this one up hardly. Anyhow here she is depicted as T6+CP of 6/StG 2 out of Libya in 1941. She's wearing one of the more interesting and controversial schemes on a Stuka as there is confusion as to wether the snake motif was red or tan. I displayed this one in red as it seems to have a more sinister look to it.
Danny Lectro Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) I am absolutely floored by the quality of work going on in this thread. Now, here I come to ruin things. I never want to see another piece of masking tape again. This was before applying the last metallic layer. I used Dark Andonic Gray Metallizer, Magnesium Metallizer, Stainless Steel Metallizer, and finally Aluminum Plate Metallizer, with buffing and masking in between colors. Then, after removing all of the masking tape, I had this: ...after which I did a little victory dance. After assembly, a grey wash, and some weathering pastels, I had my finished product: I finished this a couple weeks ago, just in time to bring to a science-fiction model contest. I didn't win any awards for this one, but a couple of my mecha models won awards. Aaaaaand now I see the ginormous gap in the tail. Edited August 17, 2014 by Danny Lectro
Agent G Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 That is a good looking Stuka. Finishing a troublesome build has it's own rewards and when it turns out like that, well congratulations! Danny that is one sinister looking spacecraft. I really like what you did with the metal tones. Photographing our work lets us see all the little errors and miscues. Sometimes I see so much wrong I wonder why I even bother . I'm calling King Kong finished. G
mustang1989 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 Danny that build looks really awesome. I can identify with seeing the gaps or any other fault when I look at a picture of what I've built. Even so, this is a cool build with alot of attention to shades and weathering. Wayne! Man you're a tank building factory man!! The quality of these builds are amazing and this one's no exception. Great work and great builds by you. Lemme know which pics you guys would like to have posted in the intro and stick around for another round. My next ones gonna be that motorcycle with the sidecar !!!
mustang1989 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 Ok fellas. My next contribution to the CB will be my 1/48 Bandai BMW R75 motorcycle w/ sidecar that is pictured about middle way through this page. A small but detailed little build. Here's the parts layout:
mustang1989 Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 Gotcha posted there Wayne! Can't wait to see what you've got going next! A wee bit of progress this week after cleaning up all the parts before installation. Here's the 750cc engine for the BMW motorcycle that's mostly assembled:
mustang1989 Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) A little more progress on the engine. I painted it chrome silver and applied a water based wash. Just enough to bring out the detail. I'll dull it up and make it look more worn down the road. Also in the works are some plug wires and whatever else I can think of to spruce this little engine up with. I received my Tamiya Acrylic German Grey in the mail yesterday and man that stuff goes on saammoooooooth! Got the base coat on the motorcycle frame, forks and wheels. I'll let this dry then gloss and weather it. Edited August 23, 2014 by mustang1989
Danny Lectro Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Wayne, King Kong looks really good! Joe, I really like what I see so far on your motorcycle, the flat-twin engine looks nice! I'm also working on a motorcycle, but of a very different nature: Batman's Bat-Pod from The Dark Knight. Here are the sub-assemblies, still unpainted: And then painted with Krylon black primer, decanted and run through an airbrush: Apparently I neglected to take photos of the next few steps, I apologize. I painted the primed sub-assemblies with Testors gloss black, which, when airbrushed of the Krylon primer, resulted in a semi-gloss finish that I felt matched photos of the real prop very well. The black sub-assemblies were dusted with Tamiya Weathering Master silver pastel, to replicate the chipped and worn away paint shown on the filming prop. Some parts were painted with Testors Aluminum Buffing Metalizer, which was then buffed and dusted with Tamiya Weathering Master soot pastel to add some highlighting (darklighting?) to the raised edges. The seat was left in the Krylon black primer, and then dusted with a brownish weathering pastel. After some careful assembly, accompanied by some cursing, I had this: Soon enough, I was very close to being finished. I need to hold off on adding the handlebars, as I am planning to use a Batman rider figure that was sold separately by the kit manufacturer, and I need to make sure everything is lining up before cementing things in place. I hope to have the Batman painted up soon. I've been looking up photos of the filming costume. Some images seem to be actual black, some seem to be a dark grey. I've decided to just go with semi-gloss black, with details in flat and gloss black. I'm trying this out on the standing figure that came in the figure set. Edited September 7, 2014 by Danny Lectro

Danny Lectro Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Lookin' good so far Danny!! This outta be friggin cool!! Thank you, Joe. I appreciate that. When I finish this one, I think I might actually build a car!
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 Looking forward to it! What scale is the motorcycle?
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 A little further along with my motorcycle. Mine is in the 1/48 scale range here: Wheels are mostly painted here: Here we are with the bike frame together , engine installed and a light wash over the bike frame and fuel tank:

Mine is in the 1/48 scale range here: Wheels are mostly painted here: Here we are with the bike frame together , engine installed and a light wash over the bike frame and fuel tank: It's mind-boggling that you're able to do that at 1/48 scale!
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 1/25 eh? Plenty of detail to get going in that scale . I'm a little further along with the motorcycle than in the pics and let me tell you, my biggest obstacle is going to be hiding those stooopid hard-to-get to seams!!! lol

I'm a little further along with the motorcycle than in the pics and let me tell you, my biggest obstacle is going to be hiding those stooopid hard-to-get to seams!!! lol That's even been a problem in some of the larger scale motorbikes I've worked on. I can barely comprehend what you must be dealing with on something that small.
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 This pic will show the installation of the "saddle bag " on the motorcycle. I'm going to be the first to say that I really don't care for the molding of this part because I happen to have the new Tamiya 1/48 scale BMW R75 in my inventory as well and those saddle bags look alot better. I may build that version here as well. Any how it did add a cool touch to the bike. Here it all is in non weathered form... The seats have too much of a frosted look and I'll address that after all weathering is done. The rear seat will have a sleeping bag draped across it so I'm not all that worriied about that one. Here's a pic just after the BMW decal was installed on the fuel tank and a couple of other parts hung on it as well as a flat coat. We're getting there anyways....
mustang1989 Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) .....forgot to mention that the second picture was taken with my new Nikon S9700 camera. I forked out around 300 bones for it but it yields LOTS better quality of photos! LOTS!!! Edited September 8, 2014 by mustang1989
Danny Lectro Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Here is my standing Batman figure that came with the seated figure for the Bat-Pod. He still needs some touching up. Main color is semi-gloss black, with flack black for the fabric-like areas and cape, gloss black for the bat-symbol, metallic grey for the gauntlets and gold leaf for the utility belt. All these colors are Tamiya paints. The flesh tones were done with Citadel/Games Workshop paints. Now I need some input from you guys: Does the semi-gloss black work? I'm not sure if there is enough difference from the flat black to be noticeable. I think the rider figure might do better with Tamiya German Grey for the main color, with a light coat of gloss to make a semi-gloss finish, in order to get some more contrast from the flat black. It would also allow me to get even more variation in tones by painting the gloves and boots in semi-gloss black. The mold on this figure is really soft, especially in comparison with Moebius' other offerings, and it becomes very obvious when you zoom in this much. I don't have a talent for sculpting, so I'm doing the best I can with what I have.
