Danny Lectro Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) You know I've had a build or two that went that way Danny. Somewhere in the middle of it I just wanted it done and off my bench. I will say that you've done a good job on this build with that mindset though. Hang in there bubba and I'm looking forward to that 49 Ford of yours! I'll get a picture posted in the intro when I get home tonight Danny. Which pic do you want me to post? Thanks, Joe. Use the third pic from the top (the front 3/4 view), please. mustang1989 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Will do sir!! Bring that 49 on pal and thanks for contributing to the GB.
Danny Lectro Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Will do sir!! Bring that 49 on pal and thanks for contributing to the GB. 49 was a typo on my part. It's actually a 48, the Revell custom coupe. Do you still plan to end the GB in February?
mustang1989 Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) No, I'll end up extending it for a bit and can afford to run it into April as I'm running what looks to be a highly successful Bf109 GB (Hell it's ony been active for about two months and it's already at 950 posts!!!) an Automotive GB that's doing fairly well elsewhere this year. I like the folks here and am not going to cut anybody's legs out from under them in the middle of a build. This has really been a fun GB here to where people can build "other stuff" with other folks who build "other stuff". Edited January 26, 2015 by mustang1989

If the GB gets extended that far, I might try to contribute another sci-fi spacecraft if I finish this car soon enough. I also look forward to seeing more eye-candy!
Zarana-X Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 That mecha came out great, Danny. I had to double back to see what you started with. I would've thought it was a newer Gundam. It's harder to do a clean mecha, than a dirty one, and your looks good. Seems pretty big for 1/100 scale.

It's actually small compared to a 1/100 Gundam, but bigger than a 1/144 Gundam. About 8 inches tall, if you count all the antennae sticking out of the head, about 6 1/2 if you just count the top of the "skull." It probably wouldn't look so tall if it wasn't wearing the giant robot equivalent of high heels. Edited January 28, 2015 by Danny Lectro

Danny Lectro Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Looking forward to your selection there Danny! BTW your pic is posted in the intro buddy! Thank you kindly. I don't intend to screw around with your timing. If you set an end date, I'll gladly abide by it.
mustang1989 Posted January 29, 2015 Author Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) I'll make the adjusted end date official here within the day......and you're all good Danny! Edited January 29, 2015 by mustang1989
Zarana-X Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I took some photos last Sunday, and then some last night. While building the legs, I attached the wrong calves to the wrong thigh, luckily I did one then started the other, so I noticed straight away. And I didn't use CA . I went back to the fuselage and boxed in some open areas so it wouldn't look hollow when I was done. Here's the body and arms laid out: legs, in progress: Boxing in the hollow-ish torso/fuselage:
mustang1989 Posted January 31, 2015 Author Posted January 31, 2015 You know I never knew these models existed before I came to this site. They are very interesting and make a cool looking model when finished. Looks like you're doin this one good justice there Jason!
Danny Lectro Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Looking good, Jason. Is this the Aoshima / Imai kit?
Zarana-X Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 (edited) Looking good, Jason. Is this the Aoshima / Imai kit? This is the old Imai 1/48 kit. I got the Monogram "Go-Bot Leader-1" version, but I know what it is now. I built this as a kid, before Season 3 of Robotech aired. It was the first mech/robot kit I ever built, and it came out awful. I painted it like the Go-Bot Boxart, and it had a lot of stuck joints, and later broke the hip joint. I later turned it into a wrecked plane in one of my primitive dioramas. Incidentally, I got it fully assembled now, just need some touch ups and detailing. Will probably start on the decals by this weekend. Oh, boy are there a lot of decals. Heh, I remember those Go-Bots kits. I built the Cy-Kill, which was a re-box of one of the 1/12 (or was it 1/15) Ride Armor and MOSPEADA kits. Mine came out really bad, too. Sometimes I think about finding another and trying again, but I don't know if I would have the patience to try one of those old mecha kits again. Kudos for sticking with it.
Zarana-X Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 I've got the Cy-Kill kit, too. It is Lancer's ride armor in 1/15. You can get them pretty cheap, compared to the actual Mospeada kits, but you only get those two.
Zarana-X Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Getting the decals on. They're behaving pretty well. I took the precaution of clearcoating them, due to age. I've only had two mishaps, and I've put two in the wrong place. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH you Monogram! The Decal part of the instructions is literally four 1 1/2" x 2" black and white photos... Been relying on google images for proper location, but wishing I had some color prints instead of looking at photos, then going to the cellar and going on memory... Anywho...
mustang1989 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Jason your progress is looking awesome man! As far as the decal instructions from Monogram???? I completely get where you are coming from. What do you see wrong here: I don't know who's asleep at the wheel up there in the decal placement section for instruction sheets up there at the model plant but if they aint already fired, they need to be that's for sure! The R/H upper wing decal should read 24WE not 14MR!!! I had already laid the wrong decal on too thinking that was correct until I ended up with an extra 24WE decal !!! I was able to repair it but that was frustrating to say the least! Edited February 8, 2015 by mustang1989
Danny Lectro Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Looking good, Jason. I'm impressed with how you took the extra step of blocking off the big gaps inside the model. Please remind me, are you retaining the transformation mechanisms?

Please remind me, are you retaining the transformation mechanisms? Yeah, but once I take the photos, its staying in the "battleoid" mode. Shame since all the detail in the cockpit, but I don't feel like retouching the paint. One more round of decal fun to go. Jason your progress is looking awesome man! I was able to repair it but that was frustrating to say the least! Does it address anywhere else options for the different designations? I couldn't fix my decal mishap because I was using Future as a setting solution. I painted over the wrong label and put the correct decal over it. In the picture above, on the knees, there is a white triangle with a Z in it, those shoulda been a blue caution triangle. The white Z traingles should have gone on the side of the head, according to several reference pictures I collected. Edited February 9, 2015 by Zarana-X
mustang1989 Posted February 10, 2015 Author Posted February 10, 2015 You know fellas I haven't put this out officially until now. This GB will be extended until April 31st. I'll make it so in the title. Thanks for you guys continued participation here and look forward to seeing more builds in progress and finished builds until then, Joe
Zarana-X Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I finished up with the weathering and final assembly. It was pretty hair raising attaching the limbs, as they are a tight fit, even though I oiled the poly bushings with mineral oil. I'm still haunted by snapping the hip joint on my first one, during assembly, when I was a kid. I put it into the plane mode, and I had to use tweezers to extract the rear landing gear. I'll take pictures this weekend when I can get some good, natural lighting. I'll transform it to battleoid mode, and it's gonna stay that way.
mustang1989 Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 Looking forward to the pictures Jason!
Zarana-X Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) Winter came back, but it cleared up in the afternoon. Just transforming it once chipped a bit of paint and damaged at least one decal... . That's why I'm only doing it once. Again, this is 1/48 scale.
