Dwight55 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm having trouble finding a high gloss clear for testors enamels. Had 3 cans of #1814 which I really liked. Now its gone and I can't find it anymore. Can anyone tell me of a suitable replacement. I tried the 2 part laquer with disastrous results. (Wet look) Thanks ahead of time.

What was the problem you had with the One Coat Wet Look?, that is a very good clear
Dwight55 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 I guess I should have explained more. I tried to do enamel paint job with a 2part laquer gloss over the top. I've used the 2 part clear with the 2 part paint with good results, From my experience with real car paint, I know laquer will not sit well over enamel.
my80malibu Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Both Amazon, and E-Bay have it. I used to buy the stuff at Walmart, only because the Hobby shop doesn't usually carry it.
slusher Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 You can paint lacquer over enamel but not enamel over lacquer...
zenrat Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 If you put lacquer clear over enamel you run the risk of the clear cracking. Don't ask me how I know this. I am assuming this is due to the enamel continuing to gas out.
mnwildpunk Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I have put lacquer over enamel many times I have used the wet look clear over a blue enamel paint job with amazing results. Couple years later and it still looks great

Dwight55 Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 What is #1814? Joe. The part # on my old can. I guess every Testors paint has a number
my80malibu Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 1814 is the part number. It is an enamel clear very slow drying, but very shiney when dry.
