Trying to Replicate My 55 Bel-Air, Need 17" Torque Thrust II's

Anyone know where to get 17" big-n-little torque thrust II's? I can find a close set from Pegasus but no deep dish on the rears. Is there a kit out there that has them in it? Thanks

The only ones I know of that comes close are the ones in the Revell 32 Ford coupe, but they have rough spokes and have to be sanded and either rechromed or Alclad painted. No one that I know of make a good set of torque thrust 2's with a 15" diameter

Detail Master used to do a set of resin Torque Thrusts. Don't know if they still do or what the diameter is.

If the Pegasus wheels are good in every respect except the depth, you can cut the centers out and set them farther back into the rim. You'll probably need a couple of sacrificial wheels.

Definitely go with these if you want Torq Thrust IIs. Revell just reissued the Alternomad kit, which is the sister kit to the '94 Impala SS kit:

The rears are deeper than the fronts. They're not identical to the wheels on your car. But, they're pretty close. I'm pretty sure Casey still casts these.

The Pegasus wheels scale 20" lip to lip making them a 19" wheel. You could take two of them and cut the rim down to make it narrower and have them rechromed or spray them with Alclad. A bigger tire on the rears can also trick the eye in thinking they are a little bigger and deeper.

The Torq Thrust wheels in the 1/24 Monogram '55 Ford pickups and '69 Street Camaro kit are gorgeous, but do not have curved spokes the like the TTIIs do. The closest to scale 17" wheels are found in the '94 Impala SS/Alternomad kits, and adding a slightly deeper wheel lip on the rears will provide the "deeper dish" as seen on the rear wheels of the reference pics. There are very few kit wheels which are close to TTIIs, and the Revell '34 Ford SnapTite's wheels are too small to pass for 17s.

There are enough TT IIs out there to choose from, none are a direct fit for what this builder is looking for. Most or all will need some modification. Hot wheels "Topcop series" of diecast's vehicles, available some years back that had TTIIs used on them those might work. Although they may be too wide or too narrow. However it occurs to me, that you will need to adjust the rear section of the model to accomodate wider tires, so why not acommodate the wheel width while your at it.

Wow! I'm sure that I can figure something out with all of the suggestions. If I need to cut and alclad then so be it. Not an issue. I'm just trying to see if there are any plug & play wheels out there that have a deeper rear.

I agree with you Casey. Those on the Alternomad are the best bet and easily modified. Glad I listened in I have to do the same on my 38 I'm building.

Not sure if you are willing to go this route but, you could just get a smaller set of TT2's and sleeve them. Of coarse, you're probably not looking to lose any length on the spokes. But if you just happen to be willing to lose just a tad, it may be a viable option.

There were quite a few Jada Dub City 1/24 diecasts with deep Torque Thrusts. Don't own one to measure, they look a bit larger than 17" though... maybe they would work?
