The Creative Explorer Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 This project is a modified, themed project. The kit is of a Volkswagen Transporter series 3 Westfalia camper. What I want to make out of this is still a camper, but the transporter will have some DNA of the mark1 Golf GTI. Some pictures so far:
MrObsessive Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I love it! You never see these built anymore............this is another one of those kits I have that has been sitting for at least 20 years! The wire screen is a nice touch for the "tent". I had a wacky idea for the tent if I ever built mine............use a lady's nylon for the tent and make the top swing up and down like the 1:1 Now if I can get a pair of nylons from the store without embarrassment!............
Dr. Cranky Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 It's looking very cool. I likes it very much. Keep up the great, steady work.
The Creative Explorer Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks guys! Bill; you gave me a wonderful idea and I hope you don't mind if I gave it a try home to make the roof functioning.
MrObsessive Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks guys! Bill; you gave me a wonderful idea and I hope you don't mind if I gave it a try home to make the roof functioning. That would be great! I'd love to see you try that since my kit may sit another 20 years before I try it!
dub Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I like where you are going with this one. What parts do you plan to use from the Benz? Both of those vehicles are excellent 1:1 cars to drive but expensive to own . That's why they go well together! I would love to build one of those someday. Perhaps I'll find one when I can better afford one. Keep up the good work!
The Creative Explorer Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 This was a picture of when I bought this kit, together with the Merc. There are no plans in using the merc in this project. I do use parts of Porsche's for this one, like the steering wheel and the seats, gives just a bit more oumph to the transporter. Getting a 190 back in The Netherlands is very cheap, it's not a big thing like in the states.
rollinoldskoo Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 i like either the front set on the first pic or the ones in the second pic.....
The Creative Explorer Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 The Transporter is not getting aloy wheels, just couldn't find the right set. So for the original GTI looks, I put on some stock steelie's, looked pretty good actually
dub Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Have you thought about widening the steelies? That would fit right in with the current trends. I think it would look perfect. Just a suggestion....
The Creative Explorer Posted December 3, 2007 Author Posted December 3, 2007 I am going to look into it, but I'm not really into that look. Im not very fond of the 'german' look. But I am going to look into it, I could widen it 2mm. Which doesnt make it that bad. There's not a lot of space between the body and the wheels though. We'll see I had the other day also a idea of raising the transporter to make it a syncro look.
VW Dave Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I like the front wheels here....Ruf wheels by Fujimi, no? Pretty sure I have a set of those in my stash. Those OZ Futuras are pretty slick too, but the Ruf's would be my choice. Please keep us updated on this one.
The Creative Explorer Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 As mention above, the Transporter will get steelie's. At the moment the choice is for Duster wheels, they seem to be nice for under the Transporter. The front wheels are Zeit's, by Fujimi.
The Creative Explorer Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) And a little update, body has been covered in white paint Edited May 20, 2008 by Steef Hartither
Nick F40 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 It took you this long? I LOVE IT! This is such a cool build and don't see many of these kits, I love the 1:1s and these are just cool, I wouldn't mind building a bus. Those look like Dodge wheels.
slant6 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I gotta know wher to get one of these. Ive been looking for one since I saw this post about 40 minutes ago. Any one know where I can get it? Or does MrObsessive want to sell me the one that he's had sitting for 20 years?
The Creative Explorer Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 a little update with a little better pictures. Nick: those are the plymouth wheels as mentioned somewhere above Slant: Bought in The Netherlands and this kit is from Revell Germany. Not very rare, altough prices are usually around 30-40 dollars used.
