Mrdarkmonkey96 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) If anyone on this forum is a hybrid technician, I need to exchange a series of emails with you. It is for me senior graduation project and was due, like two weeks ago I guess I should clarify- I have not procrastinated and stalled doing this, The area I live in there aren't a whole lot of hybrid technicians that are willing to work with me. the one I did find decide he was unable to a few days ago. It may be Im not searching in the right places. I have called all dealerships for companies that manufacture hybrid cars, and they have told me they are UNABLE to assist me. I have also spoken with my grandfather, who has been a mechanic for 60 years this July, and he knows no one in the field im seeking. Edited December 29, 2013 by Mrdarkmonkey96
lordairgtar Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I am thinking you are speaking of a hybrid like a Prius type car? If you are near a Chevy or Toyota dealership, the techs there might be able to help you. Chevy has hybrid trucks like the Silverado and Tahoe. Ford, Kia, Honda, Hyundai all have Hybrids. Might try Schweiters Chevy or Mills Ford Or Mills Toyota. I can see you are really in a very isolated part of the state. Sorry about the flip response you got from someone.

Well you know what they say, there's always one. I have contacted the local dealerships and they seemed uninterested and told me they couldn't assist me at the current time. Thank you for offering the idea though.
Greg Cullinan Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I wish I could help. Maybe find a shops website or quite a few and send emails asking assistance. Or use internet to find your information and use your grand pops credentials. Time to improvise and get it done one way or the other I would think.

I Did think that would work, but all emails have to be on the schools email system/ network, and its not so much that I need information, (I wrote a 16 page paper on the topic ) but Its more of a "venture into the real world" type thing, its quite foolish but the school requires it.. Its like I am a reporter interviewing someone basically. I also thought for sure I would have it down, but the rules are that you cant use family members.... Thank you for your advice though! Greg Cullinan Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I've been through it with my kids. Also for senior project they've done shadowing. As with most school work it's busy work. Lol. Nah, it's following directions, research etc. Good luck.

Here is what you do: Interview your grandfather. Write the paper, or whatever is instructed, but give your grandfather an alias, and say that the tech is in Clearwater, Florida. . Your professors will be none the wiser. And truthfully, the dealerships probably don't have a bunch of skilled techs yet. There is a good chance that the techs are fixing real world hybrids out of a book, or using the info that GM gives them, like the service bulletins. And, if you are desperate, call a company that manufacturers a system, and interview them. Either call a retail shop that will convert a gas car to a hybrid, or someone that manufactures them. Have you called GM, Ford...or even Tesla? What about A123, the battery builder? Who is building the hybrid bus engines? If you can get a hold of a sales or service engineer or tech, you are home free.

Lol. Nah, it's following directions, research etc. Good luck. uff. I wish It would have just been shadowing. we had to write proposal letter on what topic we were doing, have it approved by the school, research and write a paper, do this interview process, and I make a model of a hybrid to compare to revells working V8, to demonstrate the differences in hybrids and standard vehicles, then after all that, write another paper summarizing what I learned. YUCK!

I honestly never thought of cheating, well, bending the rules we will say I will definetly have to consider that!
clovis Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 And don't forget to Google things like: hybrid car problems Volt problems Volt recalls Prius junk hybrid maintenance battery life hybrid car battery disposal problems Prius fires All of the above should give you enough leads to artfully create an interview. One angle is to take the good, versus the bad in the interview. BTW, what exactly does the project require? Please be specific...we might be able to help you get the project done!

Please be specific...we might be able to help you get the project done! well the project itself is finished, I just need to interview a technician, there's five fill in the blank questions that the school gives us, and then one question we have to formulate our selves. Im simply needing someone to interiview. From there I have everything figured out.

You need to stop. and if you entirely read the post you would realize I said I would CONSIDER it. If it comes down to not having any other option, or failing twelvth grade, Obivously If I have no other choice, Ill use my grandfather. Im not hurting myself by doing that, as He does have the neccesary knowledge of the functioning of hybrid automobiles. Any other flaws in my posting, grammar, logic, or personality you would like to pick out? Can I please have an administrator suspend this clown? Edited December 29, 2013 by Mrdarkmonkey96
clovis Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 For clarification, I have PM'ed no one in regards to this topic or thread.
Mrdarkmonkey96 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 For clarification, I have PM'ed no one in regards to this topic or thread. Merely a misunderstanding, he was referring to me. he messaged me to say, come to california and get your a** kicked by an old man.. which I responded by calling him pathetic and lonely. You Have been nothing byt helpful with this, and very much appreciate it. My Apologies to anyone who has to read the arguements between the other member and I, I should know better then to encourage the trolls.
clovis Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 First, I thought you were working on a college level project. Second, I shouldn't have encouraged you to cheat. I should have suggested that you find a forum where techs hang out, or have your Gramps take you to a dealership "to talk to the guys". Third, in reality, generally speaking, no one in business really wants to spend time with a student talking about something. Those techs are paid by the job, and time means money. The service managers are paid by what they sell, and again, time is money. I've spent my life in the printing business, and the local vo-tech students would drive me insane at times with projects like yours. I really wanted to help, but the phone would be ringing off the hook, with customers trying to spend big money, a vendor is calling wondering when you will pick up those jobs and wants to be paid, two jobs are late, and a third one is falling apart three minutes before press time (the one that is going to make the next mortgage payment), and a 15 year old is asking "ummm...how much do you make? How much do you sell? And, ummm, can you tell me...wait, I dropped my paper...why I should want to be a graphic designer?" Fourth, no dealership wants to admit that their cars have problems. So, maybe re-craft your questions from real car problems that you've found on the net, and ask a dealership mechanic how he would deal with those problems should they come up. And offering to buy lunch might not be a bad idea either.
Mrdarkmonkey96 Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I think I miscommunicated what I mean.. I don't actually need to attain any knowledge on the topic, the questions are the same for every student, and I don't have to actually meet these people. I have to send/recieve five emails. I typed word for word what the sheet they give us says, to clear up any confusion. The format being this Email one and two- introductory, like wise from interviewee Email three- what is the most important thiNg i should know about my topic, amd why? What is it about this topic you are most passionate about and why The focus of my research is xxxxxx, what expertise can you add to that subject My project is xxxxx, what advice do you have for conpleting that project. Self created question Email 4, interview question answers Email 5, thank you email. Edited December 29, 2013 by Mrdarkmonkey96
my80malibu Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I am an ASE certified Mechanic, However not a Hybrid Automotive Technician. My best Advise is to go to the IATN, International Automotive Technicians Network website. They have a forum to ask technical questions, which you will most likely locate the answers, you are seeking from Industry trained professionals. You may have to register to become a member, but its free. The information is high quality. Edited December 29, 2013 by my80malibu
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I MAY be able to help you. I have extensive mechanical and engineering background with alternative-fueled vehicles. This is a link to my Pickens Plan page : http://push.pickensplan.com/profile/WilliamEngwer. This is a link to my other Pickens page, about the vehicle in my avatar photo. http://push.pickensplan.com/group/cngassexy Though I am NOT a dealership-technician, I have a broad knowledge of hybrid and other alt-fuel vehicles.
