Steve Prideaux Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) I saw this car at Bonneville and decided to try and do a model, to resemble it. I started with a 53 Chevy. ( the only model I had that was close to the Buick. I took two Chevy straight 6 engines, to make a Buick straight eight. I still have to build the intake and headers for the engine. I am going to try and paint it to resemble bare metal, (any ideas on how to paint it ? All help and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks Edited January 1, 2014 by Steve Prideaux
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Great project you have going there. Maybe something like this for a finish? http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=81398 Edited December 31, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
Steve Prideaux Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Bill, that is a beautiful Challenger model. Great finish. Did you find a sealer to use on it? I have been experimenting with acrylic paint for my finish, but have not gotten the results I am trying for. Again, your model is outstanding. Thanks for the input. Steve
squirrel886 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Cool project! How about Alclad or Metallizer, and scuff it w/ Scotch Brite or something.
Austin T Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I can assure you that Bill's finish looks even better in person. That's the way I'd go with it. Wasn't this car in Hot Rod a year or so ago?
Greg Cullinan Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Looks good so far. I like it. Anxious to see it finished.
Steve Prideaux Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Thank you all for the kind comments. I really appreciate them. I am starting on the intake and exhaust setups for this car. It has run with a 4barrel Holley, and a 2-Holley 2 barrels set up. Which do you guys think ? I really like the 2-2bbl. scoop setup. thanks Steve Edited January 1, 2014 by Steve Prideaux
cdan delivery Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 This is a very ambitious project and such a cool subject! The rollcage is great. I vote for the 4bbl.
Terminator-Fox Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Very cool project and interesting Bonneville car.
Shardik Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Awesome project! I've been planning an "inspired by" LSR ever since I saw this beauty a year ago. Yours looks fantastic so far. As for intakes, I vote for the 2x2. The Buck Rogers look of the scoop really compliments the whole diesel punk ambiance of the car.
futurattraction Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Looks like you're off to a flying start, Steve! Keep up the great work...
Steve Prideaux Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 I am just about finished with "Betty". I have a little more paint work and some lettering to do. What do you think ? Comments greatly welcome. Steve Prideaux
blazefox Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Alaclad makes some good metal colors. or you can try to bmf the whole thing in steel r aluminium
