Not much accomplished tonight, spent most of the night trying to figure out brake lines to not much success. Only got the ones on the axel to look good and I spent some time detailing the master cylinder. I figured since I was messing with wire I would make the hold down clip for the cap on the master cylinder and then painted it, I think it came out pretty good.

Lookin' good Bob! You're in way deeper than I've ever gone, how's the water? Those shocks look great, brake lines too.

Bob, your getting it! That hold-down clip for the master cylinder looks great! And the shocks….and driveshaft loop….. and….

Wow, keep plugging away at it. Isn't this FUN!!?!!?!!?!!

Thanks guy's. Gene the waters just fine go ahead and jump right in, whats the worst that can happen you rip everything apart and start over. The good thing about this is every time I sit down at the bench I learn something new. I guess that's why it takes me so long to do everything, I spend a bunch of time researching how to do something and then its a trial and error till I get it where I can live with it. Hopefully I will get better with time and be quicker with my builds.

Didn't get much done last night just painted a few items that's about it.

Just be careful trying to jam too many tricks into "learning" builds. But if you keep at it the way you have been, your going to have a sweet piece built.

Nice work, I like your determination and drive. Build on….

I just went back and looked at your master cylinder lid retainer clip. As much as it sounds so trivial an item, you reproduced it perfectly. Back when I described how to make a dipstick, I said "Keep trying until it looks right…". I don't know how many attempts you made, but the one you kept is a winner. It's so hard to maintain that mindset throughout a project. But just continue improving each build with 2-3 little tricks like this and by the time you hit a dozen it'll come second nature. You definitely "got it" as far as the motor skills to do detailing (some people really are all thumbs…) but it's the mind and drive that's hard to come by.

Stay with it Bob, your really doing good. B)

Thanks for the advice John, your right I was supposed to build this one quick out of the box and now look where I'm at and it's still not done 2 months later. I am trying to wrap things up been painting the interior and and rest of the motor pieces, not sure if I will paint the body since I'm a spray bomb guy still and my painting skills are very lacking at the moment. I want to see this one done and I need to build more to get better at the painting and washing and such so I should do less and build more for awhile. I think that will be my approach with the next few builds.

Thanks again

Bob

P.S. not much done tonight just fixed some paint flaws and wired the distributor.

Nice looking build Bob

Things like this take time it will be worth it in the end.

As for removing flash I use Revlon filing sticks there cheap and work just fine, and trim some of it with the razor knife.

Wet sanding and good prep work is a big key to getting the paint right.

This mercury was painted with a can.

If you don't want it on your topic I will remove it I'm just showing you what a little prep work will look like.

that's a beautiful merc Earl.

hey Bob, this build is looking good, glad you are sticking with it. I have dug out all my projects that have been "problem child" builds, not going to let them beat me. keep going, i have been watching, just not posting, my bad. this is right up my alley too. I have several of this kit, the 2 I have started, I mutilated the chassis on one and am putting the pro mod chassis under the other one so I don't share your woes with the chassis to body fit. the stance is killer, you hit it right on the head and as far as color, I have always likes these in yellow, or of course, black. make sure the primer is smooth, heat the can of paint and go to town. will be waiting for more updates.

Thanks guys I really appreciate when people comment on my builds it really helps me a lot with staying focused and helps me to know what works and what doesn't.

Earl that is one sweat Merc you built there, I always welcome others work on my threads I learn a lot from seeing others work, plus I really enjoy seeing other people's perspectives on builds.

Thanks for your guys help.

Where is that hobby shop Bob? I'm in Kissimmee and there's nothing around here

Jeff there are two hobby shops over here that I have found that carry decent supplies of models and supplies. One in Palm Harbor on US 19 called Hobby House and the other is in St. Pete on Park blvd just west of US 19 called Phil's Hobby shop. That's all I have found that carry evergreen and glues, paints and and such.

Not much tonight, did a little detailing on the seats, spent most of my time researching painting carbs I can't seem to make them look even close. While doing that I came across these by Mr Obsessive so I had to have a go at making a set even though they probably wont make it on this build since the battery is in the trunk and the trunk is closed, I don't even want to go there about opening it. lol

Anyway this is what I did tonight for fun.

Ugh painting is going to be the death of me. I should have known better than to try a color like yellow I can't seem to get good coverage with it. I'm using model master Bright Yellow Enamel, having a hard time getting the body lines to cover. Anyone know if you can or better yet how to go about adding coats of paint to enamel paint. Do you wet sand and then respray or just respray or should I just send this one into the pond for a bath. It's still cooking but I don't think it's going to come out to good.

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Couldn't sleep so this is what I did. I will trim down that battery terminal once the glue has dried real good.
