blazefox Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I just ordered the thunderbird. and I'm gonna kitbash the orange. crate with it. Any ups and downs to these kits. Thanks for any help Steve
Mike 1017 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I was excited when I opened the box. Everything looked great. The frame seemed to be out of another kit. None of the mounting points lined up. I drilled new holes for the radius rods, rear suspension, front suspension and so on. The engine would not line up. The drive shaft was too short. I scratched built a new drive shaft and new motor mounts. Eventually I got it sorted out. I went to install the belly pan none of cut outs lined up with the suspension parts . I pitched it into the garbage can. Good Luck Mike
cobraman Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I built the Orange Crate many years ago when it was a fresh kit. As I recall it whipped my butt. In fact I don't remember if I ever got it finished.

Casey Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Here's the Review topic for the Revell Orange Crate: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=56069&hl=%2Borange+%2Bcrate As Ray mentioned, it's a very fiddly kit. Lots of small, chrome-plated parts, very thin pieces, and a challenging build overall.
SSNJim Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) The TBird has a pretty nice stock 1969 body with most of the trim and emblems, but it doesn't have the stock red taillights or the emblem on the C-pillars. The funny car-type chassis is pretty simple. I don't think it is a replica of any particular car. The Allison motor is the same as every other issue of the Allison - chrome plated and reasonably well detailed. I do have one in progress, but it is in the stalled projects pile. I am swapping the body with the 1971 TBird, so I'll end up with a stockish 1969, and an Allison powered 71. Edited January 11, 2014 by SSNJim
