Doobie,

yeah I know, missed that one :o . I will eventually get around and paint the inside of the hood flat black. At the point of finished paint I didn't want to mess up the mica blue.

Nice job! Beautiful color!

Did you make the little running lights above the headlights? They look really good, a must on an older W900 that were not in my kit.

To Jim3, the tires are "rubber" in this kit. Pretty good ones actually and quite "squishy". They just dont have much tread depth so if you sand them down to kill the gloss, be careful. I need to put some belts showing thru on my gold nugget drive wheels...LOL. Probably less than DOT requirements all around. Speaking of which.....anyone ever try making recaps?

This is a great looking model....I've, recently, purchased one of these and I'm going to get another one.....I have to have a duplicate, before I attempt to build a kit for the first time.....Yours is quite exceptional.....I like the choice of blue.....Very nice....

Thanks everyone! The blue is Tamiya mica blue TS50. I just started using Tamiya paints and like the finish more than Testors. The cost is a little higher than Testors but the end product is great.

Thanks Anthony I will give that a try on the next one. I have a 1/25 FLC that was going to be Tamiya Pearl White. The problem I had and didn't think about it at the time was when the cab was assembled and the joints filled in with model putty I painted the cab primer gray. When I applied the first coat of pearl white the color looked like pearl gray and didn't even match the hood. The more coats I added the darker it got, So I learned that one the had way. The color of the FLC changed to revving red by use of Testors one coat. Anyways the FLC came out good and was able to save it, but was disappointing in the color choice. The pearl white would have looked awesome with the blue decals in the kit.

Actually the color choice for this Kenworth W900 was going to be Tamiya's Pearl White and Mica Blue. During the start of the painting I just decided to do one color as you can see. I think what made me do this was I didn't want to mess up on the fenders, making sure they were even was going to be a challenge. It could be done but didn't want to chance it.

The paint methods you both mention are great ways to paint, but I've never been able to get consistent results using them.....So now, I prime EVERYTHING flat black....The reason for this is pretty simple.....It makes the brighter colors seem even brighter, and where the recessed corners and edges meet, it produces a natural shadow....So I don't have to add a black wash to make them more prevalent....They're already there.....It's just like Alclad's method for their chrome....It takes a little practice and unlearning what has been learned, but with the cheaper and more abundant paints like Krylon, Duplicolor, and Rustoleum, it works very well...Making for a better chance for success.....For the more expensive paints, I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet it does....

Don't mean to turn your awesome build thread into a paint discussion.....I just had to chime in with my 2 cents, I guess....I don't mean any harm.... :)

Thanks JT. Any ideas are good ones. This is the reason why I joined this forum. I was visiting this site for about two months before and decided it was time to do so. This is a good place to get ideas and share some as well. So far just talking about the paint on this truck has brought up good suggestions for my next builds and be able to give them a try and see how it will look.
