About 2 weeks ago I started having tremors in my hands. Went to the doctor to have them looked at she says it's essential tremors and there's nothing they can do. I was gluing a set of mirrors on today and it was almost impossible. I'm only 35 that's what stinks. They kinda come and go so hopefully it can model when they're not as bad. Good news is is its not Parkinson's or related to that and that's what I was really worried about.

Look on the bright side, I had problems with my hand a few years ago, it was nothing to do with my Muscular Dystrophy, but they put it down to nerve and tendon damage, which like you, they can't do anything about them, it comes and goes, so there are days when I can't do any modelling, holding any tools are just out of the question, but I carry on regardless ......

I have the same problem with my hands Dave...only with me its nerve damage from my spine injuries in the car accident I was in. With me they tell me it will get worse over time and it has...I just do not build when they act up on me. There is plenty of other things to do then like look for parts to a project or restoration, cleaning or organizing extras. You will find your way around it for the most part.

What are "essential tremors?" You mentioned the doctor told you that's what they are. Any more information as to cause?

Never mind... I looked it up. Interesting... I had never heard of that condition.

I have tremors and they gave me Neurontin for them and nerve pain. It helps but on my worse days no. Ask your doctor about it. I know how you feel but so far I have not gave up modeling..

I take the same stuff too...quite a bit...it does help some.

I don't know why they call them "essential" temors. I was doing fine without them before and I sure don't find them essential LOL.

At least there's nothing wrong with your sense of humour!

After a heavy chemo-therapy 4 years ago my fingers were so numb and shaky that I couldn't touch models (or play guitar) for nearly a year. It slowly improved but I've had to find other ways of doing things like BMF as I can't cut (or paint) a straight line as cleanly as before. And I more or less had to learn to play guitar from scratch again but now get the same pleasure from both hobbies as before.

Hope it works out for you too.

Well said Peter. Hang in there Dave, there is a chance they could get better. Rest will help them and stress will make it worse. I do everything left handed and I was right handed. Stay with it and you may be surprised how good will do friend..

You know a couple of you guys mentioned stress as an underlaying factor and I think you're on to something because they started a lil after my mom went into hospice care

i have had essential tremors for a long time . stress is the number one factor of it . If i am really stressed out my whole left arm will shake uncontrollably till i calm down or take a nap . i will not let it keep me from building models though as it is what alleviates my stress levels . other things that have helped me is caffeine. if i drink a cup of coffee or a monster i can get my hand to stop shaking for a little while . my doctor doesn't know why this works but it does . also taking a long walk helps too . there has been times where i wasn't able to work on my models for a few weeks cause i was scared my hand would start shaking while i was using a knife or saw .

My hands shake all the time, like the gunslinger in'BLAZING SADDLES' !........ you learn to compensate. I rest my left hand on my right arm / hand when doing detail work - and believe me when detailing a hundred lug nuts at a time is DETAIL WORK ! Same way with applying washes.....'Z'
