Custom Hearse Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Best known to me as Dusty in the movie "Twister", died today of a possible drug overdose. https://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-news/breaking--philip-seymour-hoffman-found-dead-at-46-184225678.html Edited February 3, 2014 by Custom Hearse
PowerPlant Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Pretty shocking news! Especially since I had no idea he was a heroin addict... Although, I wouldn't say he is best known for Twister, in which he had a minor role His best known, and possibly best overall performance by far would have to be the best leading actor Academy Award winning portrayal of Truman Capote
LDO Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Or Jeffery Lebowski's assistant Brandt in The Big Lebowski. Rest in peace, brother.
PowerPlant Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Or Jeffery Lebowski's assistant Brandt in The Big Lebowski. Rest in peace, brother. Yes! He was hilarious in Big Lebowski... I cracked up at his reaction when Bunny offers Dude her 1000 dollar service
Erik Smith Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Sad, he always portrayed great characters. Kind of not surprising, though, I think he had been battling demons previously.
von Zipper Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Sad news, such a great talent . He also played 'George Willis Jr'. in Scent of a Woman. Edited February 2, 2014 by von Zipper
Belugawrx Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Holy.... RIP Mr. Hoffman You will be missed Check out "Pirate Radio" or "Big Lebowski" "Being Famous" "Capote" Wow 46
PowerPlant Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 "Being Famous" "Almost Famous", you mean? Great movie!
Fabrux Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Not that I have seen the movies myself, but he has a fairly big role in the Hunger Games series and I believe two of the movies were in the midst of filming. Another Paul Walker case, possibly having to scrap a lot of footage and starting over.
Custom Hearse Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 It's sad to see someone so talented die because of an addiction. I had only seen him in "Twister", and knew his work from that movie, but he was an excellent actor in it. R.I.P. Phillip Seymour Hoffman...

Sad day.

slusher Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 He was also in along came Polly. Funny movie Jennifer Aniston was in it also. This morning the news said he had 3 kids...
Custom Hearse Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 It was edited after my comment Apologies if I offended anyone... That was my fault Matija. I was not offended. I had mis-worded the original post. Please accept my apology.
Quick GMC Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I read that he had been clean for 23 years and only recently fell off the wagon. Truly sad. A lot of addicts dies this way, taking their "usual" doses after a long dry spell. it hits their body hard. I don't know the circumstances of his detah obviously, but this is certainly plausible. I'm sad to see him go.
jrherald420 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 He was the creepy guy that was after Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights.
Guest Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It was edited after my comment Apologies if I offended anyone... I was not offended, sorry if I came across harsh.
Harry P. Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I don't know the circumstances of his detah obviously... Found dead with a needle in his arm. Not much to speculate about there...
slusher Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So sad for anyone to lose their life over some white powder. He had every thing going for him. We can put men on the moon but can't keep drugs off the streets...
Harry P. Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So sad for anyone to lose their life over some white powder. He had every thing going for him. We can put men on the moon but can't keep drugs off the streets... But remember, Carl... the stuff may be available on the street, but he chose to use it. That was his choice. Play with fire and you're bound to get burned eventually.
Quick GMC Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) Just another junkie in my eyes. it's not so black and white. Until you have been truly addicted, or been close to someone that has suffered from it, you won't understand, Edited February 3, 2014 by Quick GMC
Quick GMC Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Found dead with a needle in his arm. Not much to speculate about there... I meant the details. Was it an accident, did he kill himself intentionally, etc. It seems clear at this point he overdosed on heroin. A lot of people will dismiss him as a junkie, and that's fine, but addiction is brutal. Some people just can't climb out of the hole
mnwildpunk Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) it's not so black and white. Until you have been truly addicted, or been close to someone that has suffered from it, you won't understand, couldn't. Agree more being an ex addict myself though I disagree that some say it's a disease it's a choice not a disease. I'm still an addict but my addiction is plastic now lol Edited February 9, 2014 by mnwildpunk
