Accurate's molds are not gone. Academy owns them now. I don't know if they plan on reissuing them anything soon, but the molds are not gone.

Well, that's good news anyway. Glad to hear from someone in the know that the tooling still exists. :)

Sometimes we buy kits and do plan on building them in our stash to find out 15 years later some are actually worth something. I only have a couple fetching a few good bucks on ebay and model roundup..

For my kids sake I hope so, but realistically I don't think they will go up much in value. They just make so many of them and guys like me buy several or six of the kits that we like. The companies are not like they were in the past, the tools are taken better care of so that they can be reissued again and again.

The older and vintage kits that I have I think will peak in value in the next ten years or so. The hobby is going to get smaller as the older builders pass away. There just isn't going to be as many people that are willing to get into this hobby. And the ones that do are mostly interested in kits of current and foreign cars.

Why?

Because I said so !!!

But seriously, when these kits were out in stores the anti tobacco and anti alcohol lobby was starting to take notice of of these kits and making noise about how these would get children to experiment with smokes and booze. What they didn't take into consideration was that the people who were buying these kits were mostly adults, and not children that they were trying to protect. The big three kit makers, Revell - Monogram, AMT / Ertel and Tamyia started to remove the offending decal sheets from their kits, and make them more ( I hate these words ) " Politicly Correct ". This is why I think that they should be regarded as collectables. The only way now to build a tobacco sponsored car is to purchase them from an aftermarket suppler such as Tabu or Studio27.

Sorry for the rambling history lesson.

Ah,I didn't realize the Accurate Miniature molds were still existant.I thought I read on here somewhere that they were gone. One less thing to keep them from being re-released in the future.

Those tobacco and beer sponsored stockers? The only real value would MAYBE be in the decal sheet. The rest of the kit is identical to the non tobacco and non beer cars. Those kits are basically un-saleable now, their market having been satisfied long ago.I've seen them at toy shows for $3 and the vendors get to take them back home.
