OldTimer50707 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 I screwed up on the '55 Ford pickup I was building. I made the mistake of not mixing enough paint for it and then I grabbed the wrong bottle to finish it which was a darker color. It's sitting in the Purple Pond right now. So, I thought I'd try to build the Fiat from the Double Dragster kit to get me going again. My builds will probably be long since I'm still putting in 50 to 55 hours a week on my "Real" job.
slusher Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Nice lee. I have had those long hours to when I worked....
booboo60 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Happens. Hang in there. I did a stang funny car that started out as the bounty hunter, then the blue max, ended up with the Keeling and Crayton fc. Lol. Long hrs is a bummer. Good luck, you'll get it,
PappyD340 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Looking good Lee!! and glad you're back!!
skymnky721 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Looks great to me,,glad to see you back in the sport of model building
Modelbuilder Mark Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 There you go, learning curve already up to speed, keep another project ready to go at all times! LOL
OldTimer50707 Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Thanks guys for all the great comments.
OldTimer50707 Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Had a rare afternoon off. Supposed to get a blizzard but never happened which I'm glad. Anyway, got the engine done. Wondering about dechroming the wheels. Not a big fan of chrome but would like some input.
AC Norton Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 hi lee, me either, on chrome on these wheels. basic testors silver spray,...a couple of light coats,..followed by a dust coat of testors dullcoat over, does look nice on these, and for this job I prefer the basic testors sprays on rims,..not the model master spray...regards and good luck, alf.
Speedfreak Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Looks good Lee. And you're right about the wheels. Just putting a coat of black ' The Detailer ' wash on those wheels would be another way to liven them up. Love the Fiat!
OldTimer50707 Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Managed to get some more time on the bench today. Got the '55 Ford pickup cab out of the Purple Pond today, went to shot the primer on it after I got it cleaned up, and my airbrush just splattered the primer on it. So back in the Purple Pond. But I did get the frame and the running gear mocked up on the Fiat along with getting the body ready for paint. I've noticed a few of you have either built this car or are in the middle of building it. My question is, how do you get everything lined up on the front axle and suspension at the same time?
OldTimer50707 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Thanks Michael and Gene for the words of encouragement.
OldTimer50707 Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Well, I have painted my first model car body in 50 years. It's not perfect but I will learn from the mistakes I made.
GoatGuy Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The paint looks great and is a good choice for that body style.
slusher Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Great color choice and finish Lee. The build is coming along great....
