kendog261 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I want to simulate under coating on my new 1/12th Camaro build but haven't figured out how to. Please see below photo of what I'm looking for any suggestions would be great
martinfan5 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 One way would to be to use a textured paint, just my guess
kobuzz Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 MOPAR performance textured valve cover paint
Erik Smith Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Yeah - I have used Rustoleum "Textured" paint. You can also spray from a distance so the paint dries more before hitting the model - easier with an airbrush, but possible with a can.
Casey Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Spray your brownish-black color of choice through an airbrush with either too much air pressure, too far away, or with paint thicker than what you'd normally use. You want the paint to start drying before it hits the model, so it can't flow and level out. I think anything out of a spray can would end up looking too coarse, even on a 1/12 scale model.
kendog261 Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Okay I tried a few different ways per suggestions and this is the one I thought looks the best. I just need to decide if I'm leaving it as is or over coating it with black.
Roncla Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I think that effect looks best too. Black would look monotonous in comparison.
mnwildpunk Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Which process was that? Airbrush high pressure far away?
kendog261 Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) I bought a bunch of different paints and tried the air brush trick but for 1/12 scale. The one in the photo is Rust-Oleum Multicolor Textured. The cans label has rich & elegant textured finish on it. item # 223525 Aged Iron. The lid looks almost black but the paint isn't even close to black. Edited February 26, 2014 by kendog261
