cschick Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 is there a solution or dip i can use ro remove paint besides sanding for hrs on end
John Pol Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Use purple power to remove the paint. Get a plastic container fill it so the body can sit in our parts make sure that the body or parts are submerge under the purple power within 24 hours all paint will be remove. Than clean body with dishsoap and let air dry
Jantrix Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Purple Power and Super Clean are lye based degreasers (Walmart auto section) that will disolve away certain types of paint, enamels mostly. However if you sand down to the primer in a few spots so the lye can attck the primer, it will remove most any paint. As John said, get a 1 gallon tupperware container, pour in the gallon of cleaner and soak the parts. Every day or so pull them out (use gloves) and scrub with someone elses toothbrush. That should do it.
mnwildpunk Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 For a couple Buck I just go get a bottle of brake fluid it works pretty fast
1972coronet Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I use my girlfriend's toothbrush to scrub my Purple Power-soaked parts . Her teeth are "super clean" now !
Modelbuilder Mark Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I have tried a great many different things over the years. Brake fluid works, but is way messy to clean up IMO and then you have tow worry about future paint sticking to it, bleach will work on removing chrome, but not much else. Easy Off over cleaner, the original kind, NOT the easy fumes version, will work, but is very caustic on the lungs. Castrol Super Clean and Purple Power will both work and if you use a resealable tub as mentioned above, and probably the most common product used by builders on this forum. You can use it over and over for a long time. You can even strain the gunk out of it after a few jobs to allow it to last longer using a coffee filter ort something similar. But yes, WEAR rubber gloves! It leaches all the oils out of your skin, and if you do not, they will prune up and shed something awful.
