jjsipes Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 How much work would it take Revell to take there 69 Camaro and do a 67-68 Camaro? We need a good 67-68 Camaro model kit. I would think that the Revell 69 Camaro would be a good starting place wouldn't it?
Deano Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Lessee ... totally new body, glass and interior components. Retooling of some chassis components and some engine components. I think it'd be best to start from scratch.
Leonidas Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Why would they change their tooling from the '69 kit? They make too much money off that kit to back date the Camaro model. Better off starting from scratch like Dean said. Wouldn't be a bad idea either. AMT's version is apparently pretty crappy.
Casey Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Better off starting from scratch like Dean said. Agreed, much like Revell did with the '32 Fords and Rat Roaster kits. You can make the AMT '67/8 kits work with the '69's chassis/floorpan, etc., but the AMT body (and I'm talking the new in the '80s Lesney era AMT '68 Camaro, not the original annual) is thicker than the Revell body and the corners of the '69's unibody need to be trimmed a bit to fit under the '68 body. IMHO, that's your best option, though I admittedly don't know how accurate and original AMT or MPC '68 Camaro body is.
Skydime Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I don't remember the two AMT 68 Camaros I put together back in the 90s being that bad, honestly.
BKcustoms Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I'm currently building a 68' using the method Casey described. The Revell parts fit surprisingly well under the AMT body.
crowe-t Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Revell's '68 Firebird would also make a good starting point to create a tool for a 67/68 Camaro. Most of the '68 Firebird resembles a Camaro anyway. If I were to combine a Revell chassis with the AMT 67/68 Camaro I'd most likely use a Revell '68 Firebird chassis. I don't have a Revell '69 Camaro on hand but I do have a Revell '68 Firebird so I'm sure that would work out. Is the Revell '69 Camaro chassis and the Revell '68 Firebird chassis basically the same?
