Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Yesterday I was watching some videos about weathering on youtube, and decided to see if I could get it a little better than my previous attempts. Took my 1957 Ford in Gunmetal Gray and decided to add about 50 years of road grime to the underside of the car. Copied the underside of my '74 Galaxie, that's 40 years old now. Here in Brazil we don't have salt on the roads, but we have dirt roads, and they were the majority during the 50's and early 60's when the major asphalt highways started being built. As a result, cars had a nice layer of dirt underside. 1957 Ford Custom Tudor by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Ford Custom Tudor by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr 1957 Ford Custom Tudor by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Also put some dirt on the engine, nothing exaggerated tough. 1957 Ford Custom Tudor by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr
Mike 1017 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I don't which I like better the underside or the top side.
Danno Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Good job, but it looks more like 5 years of roads rather than 50, though.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Thank you my friends!!! I'm brand new to weathering. Hope to improve on this, so I can put together a few "old" cars. I still like them better looking show room fresh tough I think that due to the car's theme, this '57 being a road racer and all, it couldn't be all brand spanking new. I thought about leaving the exhaust brand new, as if it had being replaced, but the car was already together, and I didn't want to take the risk of taking her apart. where did you get those valve covers? The valve covers are from the Monogram 1956 Thunderbird, and they also have a PE Thunderbird logo glued to them. The logos came from the PE detail set for the AMT 1962 Thunderbird.
cruz Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I see you are already mastering the look, keep practicing, it will only get better!
Lovefordgalaxie Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 Thanks Lee and Marcos!!! Much appreciated!! This is what I was aiming for: Undercarriage by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr Undercarriage by Lovefordgalaxie, on Flickr It's the underside of my '74 Galaxie, a 40 year old car that has only being repainted and never restored. The engine has being out to be rebuilt about 30K miles ago, and I only drive the car on nice paved roads, but she had her share of dirt roads on her life.
