am73grand Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I am making some serious progress on my 'Cuda Pro Mod. I have a few questions regarding the actual cars/rules. I have to mount my fuel cell in the trunk. Can I run the fuel lines up front through the interior or do they need to go under the car? Do any builders run lines for fuel and or brakes through the cage? On certain blown motors I see hoses coming off the tops of the valve covers. They connect to a tank or to the roll cage. What are these hoses for? What determines whether these cars have an on board starter? I see some have batteries and a starter and some are started like a T/F dragster/funny car with a removable starter at the blower. Thanks for any help you can provide. Ron
Daddyfink Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Fuel lines need to go under the car for the risk of fire. Most builders run their lines out in the open for ease of maintenance. The hoses coming off the valve covers are for venting fumes out of the engine and are caught in the vent tanks. Most use the chassis tubing as a long hose to the tanks. Most blown cars are remotely started just for the fact that turning over some of those blown motors are beyond the capability of most regular style starter and most blown classes dictate that you need the remoete, snout, starters. Batteries are carried just for operating most electronics and are usually just re-charged between rounds with a battery charger. Hope this helps

I had a feeling the fuel lines had to run outside the passenger compartment. Thanks for confirming. Looks like I'm gonna need to find a way to attach the fuel lines to the frame......
ScaleDale Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Here is the ProMod section of the NHRA rule book. There are references to the general section, but it's too big to upload. PM me your email if you want it. Dale 002 ProMod.pdf

comp1839 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 the best answer is to checkm nthe rules but, off the top of my head: 1. fuel tanks in pro mod i believe must be mounted up front. 2 brake lines can go through the frame. with a front fuel tank there would be no need to run lines throught the frame. 3 the lines go to a puke tank. when a pressurized intake engine (super charged or turbo'd) has internal damage it gives the pressurized air and oil a place to go other than under the tires. 4 sanctioning bodies control self or remote starting. for instance the NHRA requires self starting. the ADRL did not.
am73grand Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 After reading the NHRA rules it looks like my car would have to be more of an exhibition racer. I am not conforming to several rules; ie Double magnetos, fuel tank in the rear, injector hat way taller than the roof. I almost have a top fuel motor in a stock bodied car....... I did find quite a few things I can add because of the rule book though......like drive shaft loops, where to route the fire lines, bag over the oil pan, throttle and clutch must be pedal activated but I can run a hand brake wheel bar max length. I now have the rules for my next build and can attempt to be more accurate next time.
ScaleDale Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Check out Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod while you finish this build. I wonder how some of these guys can see the track... http://www.extremeoutlawpromod.us Dale

W-409 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I almost have a top fuel motor in a stock bodied car....... It reminds me of this one... Tomi Pellinen's '56 Chevy that ran in Super Pro Street last year. It had a Blown Methanol BBC in a chopped steel body. Unfortunately, he crashed this Bel Air last summer when the car lost traction on the 2nd gear. This is just for inspiration, keep going with the Cuda, it looks very good so far!
astroracer Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 A lot of the outlaws run scaled down 'glass or CF bodies. 7/8ths scale if I remember right. Mark
