Raul_Perez Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 So, I thought that I finished my 49 SVT Merc Cobra, but it just doesn't say "SVT" or "Cobra" enough to me. What do you guys think of the hood inserts from the SVT Mustang? Suggestions welcome!! Thanks, guys!!
Trans Am Erik Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 That looks SLICK, I really like it. I noticed the late model Mustang side mirrors and of course the wheels
Raul_Perez Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 That looks SLICK, I really like it. I noticed the late model Mustang side mirrors and of course the wheels Thanks for your prompt reply and your input, Eric!! Check "Under Glass". I posted the "finished" pictures yesterday. I built it with Mustang SVT Cobra interior, engine, wheels, mirrors...but like I said, it still seems to be missing something on the body that says "SVT" or "Cobra". So, maybe one more short trip on the bench for this one before I'm satisfied...
Trans Am Erik Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 (edited) If it wasn't in paint already I'd suggest incorporating the Mustang styling into the front valance panel. Maybe reform the grille to look like the grille of a '67 or '05. I mean just the basic shape without the driving lamps, no chrome and the Mustang's sunken grille. (my 2 cents) Edited December 21, 2007 by Trans Am Erik

I did try to mix in elements of the front bumper/grill and even the rear bumper from the '97 SVT Mustang, but the overall shapes and proportions of the two different bodies just didn't match well enough to get the suttle look that I wanted. I wish that I had put a small set of recessed foglamps in the lower valance panel to break up it's size. To me, that's the interesting and fun part of redesigning these things. If the first one doesn't come out just the way you like, it build another one!!
dub Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I like it. Its a good idea for sure. Why not? Its not like you gotta worry about messing the finished car up doing the construction of the upgrade. If you want to mess up the car you can always try doing the fog lights! Either that or you could make sure your sweat glands are healthy and actually DRILL that smooth front pan.... Seriously, if you want to try it my thoughts would be to place them halfway between the center-line and the outside edge. If you line them up with the headlights and indicators it would be too much and would exaggerate the height even more. Just a couple more of my pennies for ya!

No, I'm not going to start drilling into the paint on a finished model. I may be crazy but I'm not insane!! If the pan was not so pointed I could drill and mount them to the surface, but with the angle of the pan they would look crooked...pointing out towards the sides.
Robert81 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I like the new hood. I'm sure with a little filling and sanding it would be perfect.
Raul_Perez Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 I like the new hood. I'm sure with a little filling and sanding it would be perfect. Thanks, Robert!! It's almost ready for a quick prime coat to see where it still needs a bit of sanding before I blast it with some purple paint to see how much further I want to go...
curt raitz Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 Raul you really like that SVT hood don't ya I think it's a great fit and modification to the Merc fog lights would finish it off...jus' put a lil' tape on the the bumper, fire up the dremel drill and let'er fly hey, it's only paint and plastic...it's not like you have a lot of models waiting to be built
