Porscheman Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 These are from a swap meet at my club meeting last night. They are a 100% complete. The Edsel cost me $20.00 and the 51 Ford wagon was $10.00. As I type this they are both bodies are in Purple Power stripper getting ready for priming. The Edsel I'm thinking Bright red with a red seats with silver inserts. The 51 Ford wagon a cream exterior, All wood grain will be painted to match factory specifications. The interior of the wagon will be done in a burgandy. I can't believe I got both of these for $30.00. I also won the 50/50 and got the latest rerelease of the 60 Ranchero. which I already painted in a mint green and will be build replica stock. Let me know your ideas for body colors on the 1st 2. Al
Ramfins59 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Wow Al, what great scores at such low prices. Sounds like you hit a Home Run at your meeting last night. I'd love to get my hands on one of those Ford Woodys. Can't wait to see how they turn out. I could see the Ford in a light Blue and the Edsel in a Maroon-ish color.
charlie8575 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 (edited) Red for the convertible is a nice choice. The interior combination sounds intriguing. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Edsel/1960_Edsel/1960_Edsel_Brochure/1960%20Edsel-11.html http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Edsel/1960_Edsel/1960_Edsel_Brochure/1960%20Edsel-07.html The woody also sounds like it'll be a very pretty car. slusher Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Nice score Al. you will make 2 beautiful models out of those...
Speedfreak Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Great scores Al, I'm with Richard on the colors, light blue and maroon, only I'm seeing the Edsel (I didn't even know they made them in 1960!) in light blue (somewhere between robins egg and medium) with white interior and white top! Oh ya! And the Ford woody in maroon (to accent the wood) with light tan or light gray interior? Should be stunning builds when you're through!
Porscheman Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 Lee the Edsel is plastic and the wagon is resin.
Fabrux Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't resin react poorly with paint strippers?
Porscheman Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't resin react poorly with paint strippers? Chris, I've been using Purple Power on resin body prep of 3 years now and never had a issue. For 11.00 for 3 gallons, you can strip a lot of cars. Make sure you wear gloves.
ChrisBcritter Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 Take a look here: http://www.edsel.com/registry/index.html Check the numbers beginning with "OS15Y" and "OU15Y"; those are all convertibles (only 76 built!), and maybe you can build one of the survivors. I'd like to do one of the two surviving pilot production cars; both are Bronze Rose Metallic - one has a black interior, the other red and silver.

charlie8575 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Interesting! Maybe it's Super Clean I'm thinking of; turns resin into jelly. Super Clean and Purple Power are basically the same stuff. Scalecoat (also sold as Polly S and Testors, I think) paint remover can cause trouble. The white resin, such as used by Missing Link and Motor City seems to prefer Westley's or Simple Green as it's much less strong. Charlie Larkin
