Jantrix Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I'm planning a Allison V12 based build and the kit is rather short on realism and I'd like to bump up the detail and accuracy. Does anyone have any sources of data on these? Specifically plumbing and wiring? Carb linkages? All the usual details we'd add. Most of my research shows pictures of engines removed from the vehicle. Any help would be appreciated.
Chuck Most Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) The ignition wiring comes with the kit- they're the molded looms which go onto either side of the cylinder head assemblies. Art Arfons and EJ Potter used them in several types of vehicles, but detailed engine shots of those seem to be rare. Your best bet might be to check out literature and sites devoted to WWII fighters. It was used in the P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning, P-30 Warhawk, and I believe a couple of others. Edited April 14, 2014 by Chuck Most
vypurr59 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 This is what I have from my researching. Hope this helps a little.
Muncie Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 lots on the web of course, but a trip to an aviation museum is a more enjoyable way to do research on Allison engines - many have an engine on display. Hydroplane and thunder boat museums are also a good source.
