MPC 's 1974 Duster annual , White Lightening 1969 Firebird (1978 issue) , and some other random MPC kits from the 70's .

Why not just purchase the ones you have in the image ? I can attest to their excellence :) .

Thanks John for you help. I have a set of those I was just trying to get some reference information.

Len, at one time (early '70s) AMT included these in the '70 Impala kit as the street/strip option, but unlike the MPC versions with their flat spokes, AMT's had more of a crowned center like these.

From what I've seen, the ones in the AMT kit are technically closer to the 1:1 design, but that specific kit might be hard to find (subsequent releases have had other wheels), and I don't recall seeing them in any other AMT kit.

Monogram issued their version of the Spyder in a couple kits as well if you're looking for these in 1/24.

There were different offsets , too . In some cases , the front Spyders' centres ( crowns ) would protrude via positive offset , whereas the rear wheels' centres were negative offset .

Thanks guys. I will start digging trough my kit stash to find those. I looked at a more recent release of the 70 Chevy but it has 2 versions of Cragar's in it.

The last '70 Impala with these wheels was the Barris Cruisin' USA. AMT/Ertl and subsequent issues have different wheels. The best version of this wheel is the Jo-Han Schartman Maverick (not Comet) unit. All four of those are the same (no narrow/wide) but they are designed to fit Jo-Han tires which usually have smaller center holes than AMT or MPC. The wheel will usually slip through the center hole of anything but a Jo-Han tire. Next best are the AMT Impala units, followed by the MPC wheel (which were in a number of kits, mostly Pontiac Firebirds, over the years).

In *reality* (e.g. , the "1:1" realm) Spyders were only around for a brief 5 years ; 1968-1973 .

For 'what-ever' reason(s) , MPC , et al. , decided to employ them in numerous kits from 1974 - c.1979 .

They're my absolute , all-time favourite wheel !

Len - what were you planning to use a set of those wheels on ?
