om617 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I recently purchased the 1:18 Lamborghini Miura from Kyosho. My decision is not to start collecting but i do want 3 cars wich i personally think is the pinnacle of automotive engineering. I hope to get the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale from Autoart. So then it brings me to the last item, who makes the best Mercedes Benz w198 in 1:18 scale?
Harry P. Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Don't know if this is the "best" one, but it's a very good one (the only one?): http://www.mintmodels.com/1957MERCEDES-BENZ300SLROADSTERW198IIinLIGHTBROWNModelCarin1.aspx
om617 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Sure looks really good. I want the solid roof version, hopefully in grey non metallic.
Harry P. Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hard to find and not cheap. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Minichamps+Mercedes+gullwi9ng+coupe+1954&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XMinichamps+Mercedes+gullwing+coupe+1954&_nkw=Minichamps+Mercedes+gullwing+coupe+1954&_sacat=0
om617 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 There it is,and it`s beautiful. I`m sure many disagree on the color choice but i find it more excotic then the silver. You are right they are not cheap, but i think it`s worth saving up for over going for a cheap Burago who will probably annoy me with all the inncorrect details. Thanks for the links/tip.
Harry P. Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 You're welcome! BTW... if it was me I'd go for the convertible version...
om617 Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 It`s a nice car but this version was more intended to be more lady friendly over the solid roof version
sjordan2 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) I definitely agree with the 1:18 Minichamps Gullwing. There are other megabucks versions in larger scales. The 1/12 by Premium Classixxs is as close to perfect as you'll find. The steering wheel is even hinged to tilt down, like the real car. http://www.diecastxchange.com/forum1/topic/74181-112-mercedes-300-sl-gullwing-1954-premium-classixxs/ It's an amazing value at the price (generally around $369), especially compared to other top-level diecasts, but (sadly) still out of my reach. om617 Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) Sure look amazing in 1:12. I see some listed at 236$ on Ebay right now. Do you guys have any experience with Elite hotwheels? The 250 California Spider looks pretty nice. Edit: Oh and the 410 Superamerica Edited May 3, 2014 by om617

The 250 California Spider looks pretty nice. Edit: Oh and the 410 Superamerica The 410 Superamerica and the 250 California are arguably the best Mattel has ever made in 1:18. They are both fantastic and easily rival models three times their price. Mattel makes three variations of the California (not talking colors, but actual differences in details) and two different Superamericas. The all black one may be of particular interest to you, as it is a copy of a real car that featured quite few Mercedes parts on it. It was commissioned by a young Mercedes lover from Ohio.

Wow! I haven't seen that before. Very impressive.

Thanks for the info. They both look really good compared to price as you say. The 410 in sand/gold? looks quite special and would be a nice addition. The 250GTO I guess is the ultimate classic Ferrari for many, but i want somthing more exotic. Most Superamerica cars are truly beautiful in 1:1.

Actually Superamericas are quite more special than the 250 GTO, as each one was custom tailored for its respective owner. The only reason why they don't enjoy the same popularity as the GTO, is because they never raced.
