DennisJ
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and here is my first question..... Rattle can or Future for a clear coat? I've seen a lot of videos and it's almost 50/50 on what to use. I'm new to building so I'm not looking for super show quality here, just something that looks good and I can be proud of. Any thoughts or opinions?
jaymcminn
Tough call. Testors Wet Look Clear is a good choice for a rattle can lacquer that lays down nicely, stands up to polishing and handling, and plays nice with acrylics and lacquer (never used it over enamel, however). Future works well but should be airbrushed for best results. I also find it to be a bit fragile. Tamiya TS 13 used to be the best, but is now apparently unobtanium. DennisJ
I'm using nothing but acrylics right now. So this would be one of those times where you would have to experiment?
superbike-shaun
Dennis, I would try to get some of the testors lacqer since you said you were new to the hobby so im guessing no airbrush,?
Mike Kucaba
In my experience, most any clear lacquer will be okay over acrylics like Tamiya's. As always when performing painting alchemy, testing on scrap is a must. If you have an airbrush, there are limitless clears to try.
DennisJ
I have an airbrush and I'm getting pretty good with it, Shaun. Mike, that was my plan, to test on some scrap. I've just seen so many you tube vids with people using Future.
DennisJ
Also, I'm assuming that I spray all parts like the hood, body, frontend and rear end separately, correct?
Miatatom
I'm fairly new myself and have been leaning towards Future airbrushed over Tamiya lacquer. I just did a little test using Future that you might be interested in. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88741#entry1172012
935k3
I do you use Future over lacquers all the time but I have seen it crack way too many times over water based acrylics like Tamiya jar paints and i would not use it over them.Laquers will most likely attck them. It seems allot get good results with Urethane clears over them though I have not tried them myself. Edited May 3, 2014 by 935k3
