aw106 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Right because I don't know when to stop (I have 2 & 1/2 stockcars partway complete) I have decided to start yet another build. As I've built quite a lot of American cars recently I decided to build a European car. So the car, a while ago a friend of mine gave me a Revell F430 as he didn't think he'd get round to building it. I decided to do it box stock but while looking thought the box found it was missing the decals and tyres. So it sat for a while until I decided to make it as a Super GT/DTM style GT car. To do this I'm also using a Tamiya SC430 super GT. The car will be built as a full detail car with a carbon chassis similar to a dome GT300 chassis http://www.racecar-engineering.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/upisaku1.jpg So the mold lines were removed from the shell The door sides were cut from the interior tub The hood was removed Fuel filler, hood, headlight washers and rear numberplate are were smoothed
aw106 Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) Drives door removed (passengers door will be done later) Oil tank added to gearbox Stock intake boxes removed And I started the process of tuning the interior tub into a monocoque tub(the Lexus uses a monocoque so this makes a good base) And final photo for now a test of the general layout that will be used Edited May 21, 2014 by aw106
superbike-shaun Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Alistair, that's what I love open the box and get to cutti'n . theis looks like an awesome build coming our way! Shaun.s
aw106 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Only small updates at the moment as I'm waiting on some a new A sprue from the lexus which should give me another pair of the wishbones that it had which will give me enough for the whole car. Till then I've had another mockup trying to work out the ride height Also I did a mockup with the tub and engine with the body I trimmed the rear bumper, the center will be filled in with a diffuser as part of a floor and the section behind the wheels will be left open in the style of a modern Le Mans GT I've also worked on adding the wing mounts to the engine cover Edited May 23, 2014 by aw106
mikevillena Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Ah, you beat me to it! I was going to do something along the same lines but I might build mine as a Group 5 LeMans longtail as a modern take on Porsche's 935/78 Moby Dick. Anyway, brilliant concept and start!

Now THAT I look forward to seeing. What base car will you be using?
mikevillena Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Now THAT I look forward to seeing. What base car will you be using? I'll be using the same Tamiya kit. I might also do an extreme DTM/Time Attack mid-engine 4WD conversion to my Ford Focus (cheap Revell kit) along the lines of my last 1/24th scale project of 20+ years ago. I noticed you have the Tamiya kit as well. Good on you!

I noticed you have the Tamiya kit as well. Good on you! The focus I bought to do as a GT but changed my mind and went for the 430. Not sure what I'll do with the focus, it's quite low down on the list as I have an XJR-9LM that I want to have done by September and possibly a Tamiya 131 Abarth plus some oval cars. So yeah that focus might sit in the box for quite a while
aw106 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 I still have some work to do on the engine cover shaping and fit but I did a quick test fit of the wing All in all I thing grafting that section of the Lexus's rear onto the Ferrari was probably te quickest way to do this and seams to have worked out well enough
fitforbattle Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Great start. I love GT cars, especially the SC430. This could be interesting.
aw106 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) So some updates on the F430. I have worked on reshaping the engine cover after adding the wing supports I added a strip at for the cover to close onto as the original needed modifying to clear the wing supports I have also cut the wheel arches to try and get the ride height for the shell. fitforbattle Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 It looks like its a real gt car. With the high bumperless rear end, the cut out wheel arches, sitting close to the racetrack. I can almost feel the warmth of the tires. Keep it up.
mikevillena Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Alistair, let's start an Endurance Racing Group Build. Le Mans is just around the corner!
aw106 Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Alistair, let's start an Endurance Racing Group Build. Le Mans is just around the corner! Sounds very tempting but I do need to pack before then as I'm going to Le mans. Maybe I'll bring something back with me, Last time I came back with the XJR9-LM I mentioned. Also this build is unusually quick for me it normally takes me quite some time to complete a build
