Danno Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Great story and great model! I hadn't thought of Honest Charley in decades! That would have been a sweet ride on the street, I'm jealous Yepper. That's why I miss her. What a hoot she was! Thanks for your kind comments.
Agent G Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 A finished model car? From Danno Baker? Oy what is this world coming to? I love it bro, just love it. No better tribute to those byegone years. G
W-409 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Very good looking Studebaker. Just perfect in every way. It looks excellent with the slicks and those wheels. Stance and engine choice is great, too. Model is well built and I like all the little details you've added. That must have been a neat 1:1 ride.

Your comments also validate the styling and customizing ideas of the 1:1, which I built over 45 years ago! Guess I struck some timeless chords with that one! Very nice to think it worked that well. Thank you very much. Real NICE Danno! Thanks, Larry!
Danno Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Looks good Danno, nice build! Thank you, Jeremy. Glad you like her.
Harry P. Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 That's pretty cool. Of course, you understand I'll have to write you up for lack of mirrors...
Danno Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) That's pretty cool. Of course, you understand I'll have to write you up for lack of mirrors... Aaarrrgggh! Caught by the Mirror Police! Yikes. Actually, the 1:1 had chrome, European-style bullet racing mirrors. I think they called them 'sport mirrors.' I just didn't have any when I assembled the model, but I always planned to find some and install them. I meant to! Honest, Judge, I meant to do the right thing! I promise to do better next time. Ah, well. Guilty. I'll pay the fine. {Thanks for the otherwise kind comment! } Edited May 23, 2014 by Danno
Danno Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Very nice Danno. What is that color? Thanks, Lee. That's good old fashioned Candy Apple Red over gold undercoat. It was Testors/Pactra enamel.
charlie8575 Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I like that, Dan. I can't get into the radiussing/slicks, but the rest of the car looks great. A very tasteful modification of what really is an example of perfect (or as close as man will ever get) automobile styling. I need to finish mine....the one I started in high school around 1990-91. Charlie Larkin Thanks, Charlie. Very nice comments that are well appreciated. I have to confess, the radiused wheel wells were a direct result of the influence of Darryl Starbird. At the time I built the 1:1, I had been participating in his Custom Auto Shows for a number of years, hanging around him and Eldon Titus and Jerry Titus entering Starbird's model car contests. I was ga-ga over the simple method Starbird employed to build gorgeous custom cars, and I couldn't wait to apply what I had learned from watching him work in his shop at Star Kustoms. Electrical conduit, flat sheet metal, a welder and some body filler and I was Starbird and my Studebaker was the Predicta! hung around

Harry P. Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Aaarrrgggh! Caught by the Mirror Police! Yikes. You're lucky I'm in a good mood... I'll let you slide on the rear tires extending past the fenders...
Danno Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Well, Harry, now that you mention it, all of those explanations (I don't like excuses) apply. I should amend my plea . . . {PS: Cool clip!}
