JollySipper Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I was just wondering how you guys go about painting the factory grill for AMT's '62 Catalina? The part that goes body color, I mean........
Speedfreak Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 You have to paint the Pontiac emblem silver/chrome as well, which complicates matters somewhat. I would probably start by putting BMF over that area and carefully cutting out the area I want to be body color, cover the rest of the grill with tape, and paint, then let it dry well. This leaves the emblem body color as well, you can BMF it, or , paint it by hand. I would BMF it myself. Or, You can mask of the whole grill put BMF over the emblem, cut it out and paint. There are several way's you can go about this, this is just one.
Belugawrx Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 The 64 had a separate nose piece ,... I thats what your talking about I sprayed it by it's self then mounted at final,.. ass. Be aware it should be sanded down (outside edges) to allow for paint thikness. Let us know with pics what you need done Cheers
JollySipper Posted June 14, 2014 Author Posted June 14, 2014 I think I've got it figured out, guys..... I'll just mask where it doesn't get painted and cross my fingers! Bruce, that's a great looking model, I really like the Pro-Tour look! I'm working on a '62 though.... and thanks for going through the trouble of posting a pic!
