Harry P. Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I love this thing! So many building options...single or twin-engine, bodywork or exposed chassis, five different induction setups, etc. Here's a sneak peek at what I've done so far. It's not finished, but I couldn't resist posting a few shots of the engine.
novadose71 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Cool! I was actually watching these on ebay a while back. I didn't want to spend $30 on a resin blower setup for my Big-T, so I figured I'd buy one if these, rob the blower, and I would still be able to build the Exterminator single engine. I didn't realize that there were so many induction setups though, that's good to know . I might have to start watching these again. Anyway, thanks for the engine shots, and keep 'em comin'.
Harry P. Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 The kit has parts for: 1. Blower with fuel injection 2. Blower with tri-carbs 3. Front-mounted blower (like the Orange Crate or "Mooneyes" setup) 4. Unblown 3 carbs 5. Unblown 6 carbs That's a lotta choices!
59 chev Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Looks awesome so far, Harry. Be sure and keep us posted on your progress on this one.
novadose71 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Man...............The wife is isn't going to be happy with me next payday. Thanks Harry.
Raul_Perez Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 That looks really nice, Harry!! How much of the detail in your pics is from the kit? (Those fuel lines to the 4 port injector base look really good!!)
Harry P. Posted January 8, 2008 Author Posted January 8, 2008 That looks really nice, Harry!! How much of the detail in your pics is from the kit? (Those fuel lines to the 4 port injector base look really good!!) The kit only has the "stick the tubing onto the locating pin" kind of thing going on. All the fuel line fittings (and the spark plug boots) are scratchbuilt. I used aluminum tubing, styrene rod and styrene hex rod (the "nut") to make each fitting. Also the scoop cover is made of masking tape painted flat black. And the kit-supplied fuel line is clear, which isn't correct. All the photos I have of cars from this era have black fuel lines, so I painted the clear kit lines with MM flat black acrylic.
Modelcarjedi Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 sweet !! can't wait to see more of your build!! keith
Harry P. Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 Finaly made some progress on this one!
Raul_Perez Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) Very nice, Harry!! I wish that I had room for some of those LARGE scale models!! I've had to get rid of just about everything over 1/25th scale just to keep what I have confined to one room. So please keep building and posting!! If I can't build it, I can at least enjoy seeing the pics of your build!! Edited January 21, 2008 by Raul_Perez
jbwelda Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 wow that looks really great! ive never bought this kit because i sort of remembered as a kid not being impressed with it. i think it was that by the time it came out it was definately yesterdays design. and somehow i didnt think details looked all that good on it. but man you sure seemed to have solved that! where did you get the fuel tank? is that part of the kit? it looks like spun aluminum so if its plastic you really did a great job on it! i am going to follow this and start looking for a discounted kit! maybe even two, one to build and one to steal from!
59 chev Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Really looking good, Harry! The tank and plumbing detail is awesome.
geetee66 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Wow! That's quality! I was under the impression that Lindberg kits were a bit dodgy....but this looks superb! Saw this on eBay. Some are going for $300 and some are available for a touch under $70. If I ever go big scale, I'll get one of these. Magic!

The fuel tank is plastic. All I did is paint it with metalizer "Aluminum Plate" and buff it with an old T-shirt. Pretty simple...and it looks just like real aluminum. Same thing on the air scoop. The blower is also painted with the same color, but covered with a coat of Dulcote, to give it an unpolished cast appearance.
ajulia Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hello there friend! I say its real' Ooops wrong thread!HahAhaha Just foolin' Harry awesome build and just wanted to comment on the clean look she has!Keep on wit the keepin on!!!!!!! Peace Ajulia
old-hermit Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Very clean build Harry. A couple of questions. I notice the dash only has two gauges and some custom switches. I'm working on one of the original kits and it has four gauges. Did the repop come like that or did you make a new dash ? Also how did you yellow the headers or is that just shadowing in the pic. I stole a seat from the new Lindy Tall T because the kit seat just doesn't cut it.
Harry P. Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 The kit has the option of single or double engines, but only has one dashboard, with holes for gauges for both engines. Since I'm doing the single engine version, I made a new dash panel out of sheet styrene, using the kit piece as a template. I figured it was easier to make a new one from scratch rather than try to fill the unused gauge holes in the kit piece. The switches are scratchbuilt, too. On the kit piece they're molded onto the dash, but since I used a scratchbuilt dash I had to recreate the switches.
Harry P. Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 A little more progress. Slowly but surely... I didn't like the kit wheels, so I used a leftover set from the Big Deuce kit. Rear tires are also from the Big Deuce. I also replaced the kit's tie rod and steering linkage pieces with aluminum rod. No more mold seams! I cut the ends off the kit pieces and glued them into pieces of aluminum rod that I cut to length.
Raul_Perez Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 That is really coming along nicely, Harry!! Now I just have to keep myself from buying one!! I'm really trying hard, for space purposes, to keep my collection to 1/24th & 1/25th scale. Keep up the posts,

It'll take up a lot of shelf space when it's done! Edited February 3, 2008 by harrypri
Modelmartin Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 That is looking great, Harry. You must have ample space to display and store those 1/8 scale models. I could never get into big scale stuff myself but really enjoy seeing others, like yourself, having fun with it and gluing together some very cool and well built models.
bobcrozier Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Harry Inspiring. Truly inspiring. I'm gonna print one of those pics out and pin it over where I model, and when I get the modelling inspiration blues, I'll just look at it. I've always wanted to build a big scale. Did LIndberg stop at this or did they do other big scale dragsters? Hey flame... how about combining one of these with a big 32 Duece? Awesome Bob
