Steve_L Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 (edited) These are pictures of my 1957 Corvette Gasser that was built for the 2007 ACME Southern Nationals NNL. I combined the chassis and drivetrain from the R/M Big John 1941 Willys with the body from the AMT/Ertl 1957 Corvette. The chassis, drivetrain and interior parts are completely chrome plated (by ChromeTech USA) and the paint is Duplicolor Metalcast Red with Kilz Casual Colors clear coat. I opened and hinged the doors and trunk. I wired the engine and added fuel lines to a front-mounted fuel tank. I installed battery cables from the rear-mounted racing battery and plumbed the brake lines. It was not a show winner but I received several positive comments. The important part is that it was a fun project. Enjoy! Edited January 11, 2008 by Steve_L
bsoder Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Hey peoples choice is a hard nut to crack! ..but that looks like it could give someone a run for their money in more way's than one!!
RatRod Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 It's a totally awesome build, and the paint color is perfect, but I think it sits just a tad to high, but it still works. I guess the only real complaint is the roll bar, it's just to overpowering, I would have went with some polished aluminum rod, and made a smaller hoop for the driver. JMO.
Raul_Perez Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I agree with almost all of the above...the paint and the opening doors/trunk are GREAT!! I agree with John that the roll bar is a bit too big/tall for the car, but as far as the overall height of the car goes, there is no such thing as a gasser that sits too high!! How about some chassis pics?! I'd love to see the chrome work!!
oldcars Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 It looks like a show winner to me. Love it all(especially the paint,WOW). Richard

Joe Handley Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I love it, makes me want to find a 2wd Cherokee and make a gasser out of it evem more now
ismaelg Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 That's some very nice craftsmanship. Clean execution.
Steve_L Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 Thank you all very much for your kind and positive comments.
Olle F Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I love the "Christmas ornament look" of your model, it just right on an old Corvette like this. I have an MPC '57 Corvette on the shelf and have actually been thinking about building something similar as my next project.
Steve_L Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Actually, there is: The class-rules specified, that there could only be up to 24 Inches from the surface of the road to the center of the crankshaft. (Note: NOT rivetcounting here - I've just spent waaaaayyyy to much time at gassermadness.com ) And by the way: The undercarriage looks beyond beautiful! - Did you have the parts chromed separately or as an assembled unit? I talked to Robert at ChromeTech and we agreed on a price for chroming the entire assembled chassis and drive train. It is important to note that this is not his usual way of doing business.
