JohnU Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Probably caused by mildew being stored in a damp closed space. Try cleaning with a diluted bleach solution then rinse and dry off real well. Then let them sit in the sun for awhile. Old fashion way of disinfecting!
slusher Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I have just lightly spayed Lysol in a mist over model boxes that I bought with that smell. It kills mildew smell..
charlie8575 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 You could also try some 70% deantured alcohol. It won't damage the paint or anything else and kill anything. Add a drop or two of vanilla extract, and it'll kill the odor, too. Charlie Larkin
Zarana-X Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Put them in a ziplock baggie w/ a dryer sheet, then put 'em in the freezer. I wouldn't trust any chemicals not to ruin any paint/decorations, and leaving plastic (windows & interior, etc.) in the sun is probably gonna discolor it, on a hot day it will definitely discolor it and melt the windows.
JohnU Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I didn't mean to store the cars in sunlight indefinitely under a magnifying glass! Just long enough to dry out and kill mildew spores!
Tom Geiger Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Wouldn't you know... someone mentioned bleach and the ad in this thread became Clorox!
