superbike-shaun Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Hi out there in plastic land, does anybody know what kit this engine is from? I will post pics on Friday but in the meantime it looks like a "Hemi" and says ARIAS where the webs are on the block. underneath the heads. thanks Shaun.s
Guest Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 If it's molded in orange, it could be from the Orange Blossom Special.
superbike-shaun Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Roger, its not molded in orange, its been painted , and I haven't stripped it yet, I believe its molded in tallow, will post oics on fri thanks.shaun
bobthehobbyguy Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Might be an engine from the meister brau puller. It was molded in yellow.
Longbox55 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 That was my thoughts, that it's from the Meister Brau pulling tractor. The Arias is basically a hemi conversion for a Big Block Chevy. Originally intended for drag racing, they went on to be very popular with the pulling crowd and boat racers. There's a history of the company here. http://nickariasjr.com/about-us.asp
freakshow12 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Actually the arias is also a fully aftermarket 392 hemi. It shares architecture and I think about 418 cubic inches are the limit. A couple pulling guys I know up here swear by them but parts are getting a bit tough to find
Longbox55 Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I believe you're actually thinking of the Donovan Hemi http://www.donovanengineering.com/Blocks/417Block.html
Force Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 (edited) Yes, I have never heard of anything else than Chevy big block based Arias Hemi engines. The Arias, Donovan, McGee and other engine designs were used in drag racing back in the 70's and 80's but NHRA stated that the Mopar 426 Hemi design specs were the only accepted design in the rules for the nitro classes back in the 90's so the other engines faded away. John Force Racing designed a Ford Hemi called Boss 500, other than the block is anodized blue it looks like the other aftermarket Mopar based TFX, KB, BAE, AJPE Hemi's as the bore spacing and other measures has to be as the Mopar Hemi's, the only thing altered is the main bearings and the lifter holes are slightly different. The tractor pulling guys has since then adopted the Arias Hemi and it has been widely used there. Edited July 14, 2014 by Force
