Hi, have 3 of these Amt Novas that I'm trying to decided what to do with - I think one will be a Yenko Deuce, one will be a stripped down 396 big block car, not sure of the 3rd yet. But wanted to know what year this kit is modeled on - I think it's a 72 but not sure?

Every '72 I've seen with bucket seats had the high-back Camaro/Vega style seat, not the low-back seat with the separate headrest. All of the '72 brochures I've seen show the high-back buckets also, and those are done before the cars go on sale. Even though the kit first appeared in '72, I'll say it's a '71.

It is a nice kit I will say that. I turned mine into a '69 to represent one I owned when new. The new '69 Revell kit is much better in some respects but, I still love the old AMT kits. Hope to see it when you finish one.

As Mark pointed out the seats are not correct for a '72. I bought a new '72 Nova SS and the high backs are what you got if you ordered buckets with the deluxe interior. The molding on the lower part of the body may of been part of an extra cost trim option, mine had the chrome trim around the windows that was extra at that time. All of these things are easy fixes depending on what you are trying to build. The only real; problem with this kit is the front wheel openings are set to far forward and the fenders are hard to line up. I think they were trying to make a "funny car" or something as an option. Some people feel that the rear of this model is more accurate than the current '69 Nova by Revell.

IIRC the separate fenders were due to the Pontiac Ventura kit. Shared all the tooling just different front clip.

A funny car was issued also, with the narrow chassis that was used under the Funny Hugger II (the '69 Camaro that Model King reissued some time back). That chassis was used under a couple other bodies also. The Nova funny car had different front fenders, with the front wheel openings shifted forward to match up with the chassis. The Ventura II had a different front clip including the cowl vent that was molded as part of the body. The rear bumper was a different piece too, with wider taillight bezels and a body color filler piece that went between the taillights. Both sets of wheels (stock and optional) were different too.

Thx guys. From what I can see on the net the front and rear ends(ie bumpers, grilles, etc) look exactly the same on a70 and 72?
