crazyjim Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Here's a first for me - a factory stock build. I just don't know what came over me.
Guest Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Very nice Jim. One thing, paint the hose on the air cleaner flat black.
crazyjim Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks Lee. Think I can get away with just a black wash?
Guest Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 It would need to be a heavy one. Google 70 Buick Gsx 455, you should get pics.
crazyjim Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 You're right, Lee. Have to go with flat black. Thanks.
Guest Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Np. I did not mean it as a criticism either. Your build is very well done. Glad to see you do fs.
Harry P. Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I don't think yellow wipers, door locks and gauges would be "factory stock"... However, you do get points for the model having mirrors, both inside and out.
crazyjim Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 No problem Lee. I appreciate your advise. I can never get teensy little pieces of BMF for door locks to stick, Harry.
cobraman Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Looks great. Unless I miss my guess your front plate is always the same. What does it represent ? Maybe it's something I should know ????
Harry P. Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 No problem Lee. I appreciate your advise. I can never get teensy little pieces of BMF for door locks to stick, Harry. Silver paint and a pointy brush... Or even a fine point silver Sharpie. Actually what I do for tiny stuff like door locks is first is cut the small circle of foil to size while it's still on the backing sheet, then use the tip of the blade to pick it up, and then I just press it into place on the model and burnish it. I don't put a piece of foil on the body and then try to trim the edges... I cut the foil to size and shape on the backing sheet. Try it... you'll like it.
Mackvision Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Not to hijack the thread,(beautiful Buick BTW!) but the front plate represents the Vietnam Service Ribbon (Vietnam Veteran) proud to see it displayed on all these builds!...............................................Mark
rasafyff Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) Very nice Jim. One thing, paint the hose on the air cleaner flat black. Are you sure about that.Alot of the cars I see on the internet have a silver/aluminun hose.Doesn't this hose bring hot air from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner? Shouldn't this hose be connected over center of the exhaust manifold? Edited July 26, 2014 by rasafyff

Yes, it connects to the exhaust manifold. Edited July 26, 2014 by midnightprowler
crazyjim Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 Thanks fellas. Mark got it right about the plate, Ray. Vietnam Service Ribbon. I served with the 1st Battalion, 13th Marines as an artillery forward observer 1969-70 in Vietnam. The plate is my way of telling people I served. Those who also served know what the ribbon represents and look for me at model car shows. When we meet, we're able to tell each other "Welcome home".
tubbs Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 first off Jim, thank you for your service! secondly, beautiful build. have a few of these, but never put one together, what yellow did you use? looks nice.
crazyjim Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 Thank you, Al. And thank you again. I used HOK chrome yellow followed by a coat of Nason 2 part clear.
Reeves Racing Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I wouldn't worry about painting the hot air tube black since the firewall, radiator top mount plate, fender liners and core support are all body color. Clean build, nice job.
