6. I just recently finished a special version of the General, myself.

B)

Now this is something I'd like to see!

Can you post some pictures?

Mike.

Can't wait to see the engine sitting in the engine bay...

I'll test fit and take pics as I get more built.

It will be the first time doing plug wires.

Now this is something I'd like to see!

Mike.

I wouldn't mind seeing it myself.

OK, guys, I'll post it in a day or two. But I won't highjack Byron's thread, so I'll post it in "Under Glass." B)

PS: Just don't tell Lee (Midnight Prowler). I'm not sure his heart can take it! ;)

Hi Byron,

nice progress so far. Like what i see...cause i'm building a General the same time...but i'm working on the "new" issued mpc-kit.

Where can i find the auto trader commercial? Is it a clip or something? I am just interested, what the differences are between the "new one" and the movie car (2005) that i am building.

Thanks so much man and that's awesome your building one too!

You can find the clip and behind the scenes clip on YouTube just search dukes auto trader.

There's not much different from what I see.

The movie car used a 426 hemi.

And the tire white walls are showing, instead of them being reversed.

Also for the front grill they keep the walrus teeth on it for the movie and tv show/ auto trader has them off.

One of 2005 general lee movie car is for sale on eBay motors right now for $50,000 if you wanna see pics.

The auto trader clip just shows the car almost exactly how it was in the tv series. Engine I'm not sure what they used.

Cheers,

Byron

Thanks Byron!

Just take a look to ebay...thanks for your tips buddie ;)

I searched a lot in the web to get informations about the difficult GL they used. A nneverending story, if you dont pick up one episode that you will build. So your "intro" is the same as my thoughts: i built this one and no other :)

As i saw the movie the first time, i am a fan of Bo and Duke (not the tv series), in my view they are perfect as charakteres.

i watched it couple times to build "my" GL as close as i could.

If i am right - and you tell the same - the only one with a Hemi is those moviecar, Cooter told i after rebuilding and a really, really short look under the hood shows the Hemi. For me, it makes it easier, but the mpc-kit is a terrible one...a lot of scratchbuilds, changes...but i have fun with it.

Back to your work.

I like your interieur. with the paint you hit the nail - the same color is on my list to buy and paint mine.

Also your paintjob and (intersting) details is perfect!

Only for the orange (sure, they are all a kind of orange) i went to a paintshop and they made me the original "Big Bad Orange" in a spray can. There i make no changes, but thats me...a little nuts in authentic if i build a movie car

So work on buddie, i think your GL will be a winner ;)

Thanks Dom,

That's my thoughts exactly. There's as many model replicas as there are actual cars.

So none of them are perfect and none have the high rep unless there signed off from warner bros.

I am a fan of the movie and Bo and Luke. Knoxville is always funny! But the movie honestly was awesome but the auto trader commercial and the tv series, gives me more inspiration and vibe from it.

Thanks for the comments on the interior.

They used a whole bunch of different shades of oranges. Corvette flame red, hemi orange. Competition orange. So that's awesome you had a color mixed for it.

Personally I'm not a fan at all of the mpc kits unless it's big scale. I imagine the cop car would be decent because there's not much too it.

Cheers,

Byron

Quick Update..

Exhaust and radiator was painted with Tamiya Ts-17 Gloss Aluminum. The exhaust pipes will be hand painted a different shade.

As well as the radiator will be black washed and will be painting the tops and bottoms black.

The Chassis, Front suspension, Rear Axle, Leaf Springs, Fan Shroud, and Roll Bar.

Were washed, primed, and painted Gloss Black with normal Rust-Oleum Spray paint.

I may dirty up the chassis to make not as shiny but I'm not sure yet.

The gas tank date marking from Revell was remove with 240 grit sandpaper, and finished up with 500-1000 grit sand paper.

Real nice work and progress Byron. I also spry my parts on cardboard.

Thanks Carl. Yea cardboard is re usable you can cut it to shape.

I always blow my parts off and the cardboard with the air compressor right before I spray paint .

Rear bumper is all done.

Painted the taillight trim with Testors Metallic Silver.

Just gotta put the plate on.

Also cut the walrus teeth off the front grill and painted the marks with the above silver.

THATS the kind of details i like:

"The gas tank date marking from Revell was remove with 240 grit sandpaper" - *thumpsup*

Like the Rear end, looks good! Very clean build so far - over all you show.

Byron, you're making great progress, like I said, this is shaping up to be a really great build.

Thanks mate.

Here's the detail master distributor kit.

This should be fun I've never done any photo etch or wires like this before.

And the pic diagram for it is all blurry. Good thing I have a link to a pro model tip.

Still waiting on rims and tires.

I ordered some Mr. Mark setter, to help aid the decal to sit nicely and to help aid the silvering effect.

I will say that Mr. Mark softer easily makes the decals look realistic and not decalish

Also I know some people say that softing solutions can melt decals.

But revells instructions due in fact say that you can use setting/softer solutions on there decals, so maybe they make them a certain way so they won't melt if too much is applied.

And also waiting on my pin vise.

I wanna wax the body before decals so those are on hold.

Also I'm hand painting the inside interior on the body, using Tamiya's light tan.

Because I didn't feel like taping/masking

So still gotta finish it up but here's a progress pic and the distributor kit.

Byron, when cutting the PE, use a new knife blade and also put the "tree" on a piece of tape, covering the whole thing so it doesn't go everywhere when you cut them. Also, use CA glue for the PE and the wires. Hope it goes smooth. And take your time, don't get frustrated.. Best of luck..

Thanks for the tip man!! There a lot more flimsy then they look  I'll try not to get frustrated .

And I have a back up 440 engine from the kit in case something goes wrong.

Then engine built now is from my 68' charger kit.

Byron, Excellent job so far on all this!

BTW, what 'Dukes' decals are you going to be using on this?

Thanks bro!!

I'm using the ones from an mpc kit I required from a fellow modeller on here.

While we wait and I wait.

Here's a few pics of the interior tub. Basically finished just gotta add the roll bar.

I thought about doing the whole cage but will see

I didn't paint the inside of the fire wall mainly because I got lazy and secondly you just won't see it once the bodies on. Heck you can barely see the pedals now

Got the roll bar finished by adding padding.

Aka flat black electrical tape. Trimmed down to 1/2" for the driver and passenger sides.

And used the normal width for the middle brace.

Each piece was about 2" long and rolled.

I think it looks pretty scaled.

If I didn't mention before, I cut off the fire extinguisher.

Also the roll bar is from the 68' charger 2/1 kit # 85-4202

It's not glued in yet in case there's fitting problems which there shouldn't be since the kits are literally exactly the same even down to the part #

Cheers,

Engine detailing starts tomorrow!!

Byron
