Tonioseven Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi. I finally got around to applying some of the new lacquers recently. The results are below. The Revell Camaro was painted directly over the bare orange plastic with no primer (I never do that!) the Torino was primed with Tamiya white surface primer. The metallic particles are a bit large but I don't care, I'll use them anyway on some projects. Just thought I'd share. Oh, by the way, The Revell Camaro is great quick build kit!
crispy Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Tonio, they look great, but what colors did you utilize from their new lacquers? I'm guessing Fiery Orange and Revving Red? I've been seeing lots of talk about these and most everyone neglects to tell the color. No shop around here and no one around here will be carrying them. I'd really like to get some Inca Gold and that Fiery Orange. I'll have to hit somewhere online. Thanks for testing and showing Tonio! Chris
Tonioseven Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 (edited) Sorry Chris, you got the colors right! I have the white and green as well but I haven't gotten around to them yet. Edited January 14, 2008 by Tonioseven
Joe Handley Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Those look great Tonio, nice job! No shop around here and no one around here will be carrying them. I'd really like to get some Inca Gold and that Fiery Orange. I'll have to hit somewhere online. Chris If other places are like the HTU I work at, we can't keep them in stock and seem to only be able to get the Orange, Reds, White and sometimes the clear!
Harry P. Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 To my eye the metallic is WAY out of scale...it gives the model a "model" look instead of a realistic finish. You'd think that paints designed from the ground up to be used on 1/24-1/25 scale models would have scale accuracy taken into account. Oh well, it should be a big hit with the DONK crowd. Me, I'll stick to my Duplicolor.

Me, I'll stick to my Duplicolor. I'm with Harry on this one, most of the metallic paints I have seen seem very out of scale, and the car ends up with that "70's ski boat glitter" thing happening. I wonder why the paints aren't more to scale, it's certainly possible to grind metallic particles that small. Anyone know the answer to this?
Brendan Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Was wondering if anybody who's tried the clearcoat...if they'd done over any other paints. And also wondering if the clearcoat yellows at all.
Harry P. Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 You guys are entitled to your opinions, obviously, but, might I suggest that you withhold judgment until you've actually seen a model that's been painted with one of the One-Coat Lacquers "in the flesh," so to speak, rather than just in photographs? I say that because in my experience, the metallic really doesn't look out of scale at all the way it does in some photos I've seen — certainly no more so than with, say, a paint like Dupli-Color Metal Specks — particularly after the clear coats have been applied. My comments are based on the photos posted. It does have that "70s ski-boat glitter look". The flakes look like they'd scale out to about 1/4 inch apiece! I'm not sure how the flake size could look different in "real life" than in the photo. Maybe it's a function of reflectivity or some weird optical thing, but judging only from the photos posted, it looks badly out of scale. If you say it looks good in real life I guess I'll take your word for it, though. But I'm still sticking with DupliColor. ; )
