Superpeterbilt Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I forgot about Robin Trower. Good addition to the list. Not a virtuoso by any means, but the guy was great at what he did.Is

peekay Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) If you don't already know Tommy Emmanuel, check this out. The intro shows his remarkable mastery of harmonics... Edited August 24, 2014 by peekay
Harry P. Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 That guy is good, no doubt about it. Just a bit too theatrical and ornate in his playing style for my taste. Like those singers that add all the extra notes to the word "brave" when they sing the last line of the National Anthem... "and the home... of the... braaaaaaa-AAAA-aaa-AAAAAA-aaaaave." But no denying he knows his stuff.
peekay Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I have to agree with you, Harry. Tommy does tend to over-embellish and is at his best when he keeps it simple. But the technical high-flying, combined with a sense of humour, are part of his success formular.
ShredHippie Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I am a big fan of wanky shred guitar... Its not for everyone but speed and technique IS a form of expression. Guthrie Govan is not new but he seems to be getting more recognition lately..and deservedly so. Check him out...hes got it all...technique, tone and taste.. If you want a truly legendary guitar performance...Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins doing "Jerry's Breakdown" is it!!!
Superpeterbilt Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) Guthrie Govan is awesome. I found out about him watching him demo a fretless guitar. It inspired me to build my own. Ive since studied some of his technical lessons etc. Hes a great player. And yes, Jerry Reed is the man. Edited September 14, 2014 by Superpeterbilt
Scalper Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 no joke, don't even like country, but Roy Clark has got to be in there somewhere...... unless we are sticking to rock stuff.... then..... nevermind.
