Dragfreak Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) Stan, I'm sure this will turn out like all of your past builds, absolutely phenomenal! I'm a complete vega nut, (15 and have already owned 3) if I could find and afford a 71-73 promo I'd buy it in a heartbeat, not to hijack the thread, but if you paint it red it might end up turning out like my old mans outlaw 10.5 '72 vega Also, If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay to get that thing? By the way, if you need any reference photos no matter what it is, there's three Vegas sitting in the shop that I take reference photos of. Two chassis cars and a 90% original panel delivery with a SBC/th350/9" but everything else is stock Edited August 18, 2014 by Dragfreak
1 bad55 stan Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Cool build Thanks Gordon, Killer build as usual always look forward to seeing your builds and the detail you put into them Thanks for the kind comments Steve

What kind of pictures would help the most? Thank you for the information on what you purchased it for, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a kit, my dad would flip out if I built a replica of his car.
1 bad55 stan Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Hey Jason a shot or two of engine bay, side, front rear, and interior would be good!I might build something similar to your dads.
freakshow12 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Looks like a great project. My uncle built a caged, tubbed, tunnel rammed 396/4speed vega just like this when I was a kid. I still remember sitting between the tubs holding the cage. It was a very violent car. He ended up taking it apart
tubbs Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 nice looking vega Stan, I am sure it will be a lot nicer when you get all that stock stuff out of the way. LOL. cant beat blown big blocks, but I have always liked a 4bbl big blocks in them. whatever you decide, I am sure it will be a killer. I will be jealousley watching.(I want a vega, soo bad I pitched a few in my younger days, who wanted vegas back then anyways)
futurattraction Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Cool start to your build, Stan. I'll be looking forward to more updates, buddy!
Dragfreak Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 (edited) My dad's car is round tube chassis from the front subframe back, the car was built back in the early 2000's when outlaw 10.5 still was running 8's. The rules said it must have the original chassis from firewall forward so that's the reason it isn't a full round tube, I took some pictures of the engine bay but I feel my vega panel which is a full tube chassis car would be slightly more helpful chassis wise. It is square tube rails with mustang 2 front suspension. I've included some pictures of both cars. Anything else you need feel free to ask! The first three are of my panel, if you'd like some interior pictures of that I can take some, it will be very different being that it isn't a hatch like what you're building Edited August 18, 2014 by Dragfreak
DynoMight Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 You and your dad got a sweet car Jason! Looking forward to this build, it'll be pretty cool!
Davewilly Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Cool build... I have always loved the V8 Vega
W-409 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 This will be a very cool build. I'm a fan of GM H-Bodies and this year is my favorite of all Chevy Vegas. I know you will turn it out fantastic, and the start looks very good already. That chassis fits pretty nicely on place with those modifications, so keep it coming, I'll be watching this one closely.
Bookie86 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Big Tires under small cars isn't that what we all like

Cheers Niko,The way the body tappers at the bottom makes it a tight fit, gonna be a lot more head scratching before this is done... Big Tires under small cars isn't that what we all like The bigger the better i say,
1 bad55 stan Posted August 22, 2014 Author Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Hi guys, here's a small update.I braced the strut mounts where it meets the fire wall as my last build kept braking, Because the tapper on the lower part of the body i had to cut an box in the drive shaft/gearbox tunnel to get the seats to fit. . All comments and suggestion are appreciated. Edited August 22, 2014 by 1 bad55 stan
Devilsnake98 Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 You can never go wrong with a big motor in a small car. This setup with the BBC and a single 4bbl reminded me of the ultra rare Baldwin Motion Super Vega, these were offered with a LT-1 350 and a 454.
wayne swayze Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 She's looking good (or is that BAD?) Stan! No worries with the bracing this time I imagine.
