'Cause the wind was my mother, the highway is my brother

"Born to Wander", Rare Earth. Fun fact: This song was playing on L.A. radio (either KRLA or KHJ, can't remember which) at 6:00 AM on February 9, 1971 when buildings, freeway overpasses, and anything not nailed down started wandering around - the Sylmar earthquake.

ETA: It was KHJ; the DJ was Charlie Tuna. On the aircheck, he says "I'm a little shaky this morning." Forty seconds later...

You can hear it here:

Listen how it goes, my rhythm,

Easy to dance to, mulatto girl.............

This is how "Oye Como Va" loosely translates......... Originally done by a guy names Tito Puente, later covered by Santana.....

I grew up listening to the real Don Steele and Charlie Tuna

"My name is Forrest" he'd casually remark,

Waiting for the bus with his hands in his pockets,

He kept on saying "Life is like a box of chocolates"

............................................................................................................................

Statue in the Square, meant so much when it first stood,

People come from far and near, blaspheme it, blaspheme every word..................

My pain is self chosen,

At least, so the prophet says,

I could either burn, or cut of my pride and buy some time,

A head full of lies is a weight tied to my waist..................

Pretty eyes, shinin' big and bright

A bundle of joy, she's outta sight

Long black hair and fancy clothes

She's got a reputation that everybody knows

Hint: Motown. Big with the Northern Soul crowd.

Time to pull the plug.

The Contours - Baby Hit and Run

This was an alternate take with Billy Gordon on lead; more hot and hard-edged than the released version:

They've got us on the run

With guns

And knives

We're fighting for our lives...

Hint: From a movie; better known as an instrumental in the USA (hit #27 Pop, #1 Adult Contemporary) but at least two different English artists recorded vocal versions.

Unplugging this one - I thought this would be easier since the movie's had something of a revival lately:

Young man brash and cocky,

The old man's got his pride,

They got an unusual disrespect,

So dissatisfied.  Having a hard time....

I just couldn't leave it alone, kept picking at the scab,

It was a doorway, tried to seal itself shut, and I climbed in......

Now I am somewhere I am not supposed to be, and I can see things I never really should have seen

We all know the original artist, let's see who can guess who did a cover of it........

Only dimly aware of a scent of unease in the air.....

TJ... are you the only one still playing this game? Looks like it!

Ok, here's one I hope hasn't been posted before. I'm not going to go through 200+ pages to check...

"And her face is like a sail,
Speck of white so fair and pale"...

What am I, chopped liver?

Oh, I guess by "playing the game" you meant posting the questions, not just the answers.

Okay, I'll play one:

I spent twenty-nine years in a dirty old prison cell....

Did you enjoy yourself last night dear, how was the show?

You know that I don't mind it when you go

I understand sometimes we all need time alone

but why do you always leave your ring at home?
