What engine is this in the Dodge Daytona kit?

Can anybody identify the engine in the AMT/ERTL1988 Dodge Daytona kit #38564? There is a V-8 option, but I've never seen it build nor identified. Couldn't find any info by searching this site nor the web. TIA.

Hmmmmm, while I don't have the AMT kit, the Revell Pro-Modeler Daytona has both the 440 and the hemi engines.

I believe he's asking about the kit of this 1988 car, earlier an MPC kit, which was front-wheel drive 4-cylinder powered (but the kit had a V8 mystery-engine option).

You are correct Ace. Trying to decide if I should buy this kit. It all depends on the V-8 info.

The V8 engine inside is a blank generic thing (no detailing on block even), as there was no V8 powered FWD Daytona, the only factory engines were a 2.5 n/a, a 2.2 turbo, a 2.5 turbo and 3.3 V6 n/a

There was several fiberglass body Daytona drag race cars (door slammers) built, with tube frame & Hemi power + Lenco trans

Not a 3.3 V6 in the Daytona.......they got the Mitsubishi 3.0 mini van engine.

I remember the kit in question, it had a really weird transverse mounted dual quad V8 with a tiny transmission that made no sense whatsoever.

yes 3.0 V6, but never a V8 option, the one in kit is ficticious
