Currently, I have a lot of projects on the bench, I've got school work, possibly a job... A lot of stuff on the plate. But I still find time to play video games during all of this, and I've found some build inspiration within. I don't own an Xbox360 or PS3, but I have a PS2 (well, five, but I collect them :D). Anyways, I've been playing Need For Speed: Underground 2 for some build inspiration. I have a Revell Civic on the bench, and it just so happens there's a Civic in the game as a starter vehicle. So I chose it, as I have the last ten times I've beaten the game. Just feeling the way the car is in the game is giving me some ideas for building it, and you can customize the car with vinyls, body kits, window tint, stereos, performance parts, paint... Everything! It's a good tool.

Obviously this would be more towards the younger builders here like me, but does anybody else play games for build inspiration?

Never thought about it like that but I know what you mean with Need for speed. I have the same game and when i played it I did have a 99 SI 1:1. Decent comparison that the game made in relation to the actual car.

Driver San Francisco and Grand Theft Auto come to mind for some inspirational cars. If I could just find some original styled 73 Mustang wheels.... I'd make me an Eleanor!

I think some of the companies would do good by adding some of the game licensing to their kits. I have a bunch of cars on Forza 4 and Horizon that would make just cool builds in scale or 1:1.

A friend of mine has used the image of a Lambo 350GT that appears in a video game as the basis of his STL file that he's used to have Shapeways print him a 3D body shell in 1/24 scale. It's light on detail and a little rough, but certainly much less time consuming than starting from scratch to carve the same thing. It's symmetrical, too (which is challenging to achieve using traditional methods).
