Trans Am Erik Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Hey kideees, I call this little nugget "King of the Road" I got it at the DAAM show as a wreck, it's the 1980 issue with the "universal" frame. Now to bring it back from the DEAD EEAAAHAHAHAHAHahahahaaaaaaa.
Trans Am Erik Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Tear down! This car is a mess, but it's still better off than Brad Pitt's 69 Chevelle. lol
Trans Am Erik Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 New frame and engine. (ignore the intake, that's how I dug it out). I'm ditching the bent and broken straight axle for a Corvette front suspension.
Snake45 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) You need to put a "429" in it. It's right in the soundtrack: Johnny had a '57 Chevy Four on the floor and a four-twenty nine We used to take it out on Wild Horse Pike Run it out to the end of the line.... --"Roll with the Punches," Warren Zevon, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxZPZgQouDE Edited October 17, 2014 by Snake45
Trans Am Erik Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Yeah I should, I chose the 350 out of a 33 Ford rod kit for the headers. They seem to match the ones hanging down on the real car. It didn't have a 4 on the floor either. It was a ratchet shifted automatic! Edited October 17, 2014 by Trans Am Erik
w451973 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Cool project. I remember that episode. The Chevelle was used in other movies. As was the young actor Brad Pitt.
rustybill1960 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Okay I am interested Show Us what You got Later Russ

Trans Am Erik Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 I have a question: What shifter is he running in the 57? I can't seem to find one like it on the net. (at 4.45 on the video). It's an auto with a trigger, round shaft with what appears to be a ball knob. I would like a better pic of one so I can replicate it.
Trans Am Erik Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 Yes there was, and this episode was called "King of the Road". A young Brad Pitt played the bad guy. He wants to bring Garrett, a retired street racer out. So Brad Pitt (Billy) ends up dating, then kidnapping Garrett's daughter to get him to finally race. I'm not going to give away the ending if you haven't seen it.
Snake45 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 looks great Erik was there "Tales" tv show? The link I posted above has the good car scenes.
Snake45 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Erik asked me to post this link for him. For some reason he doesn't seem to be able to cut and paste it himself, I don't know why. http://youtu.be/eoK8op_QgFU
Trans Am Erik Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 Crossmember for the Corvette front suspension
Byron5150 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 This should be an awesome build! Nice progress so far
microwheel Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I like what your doing with this. Nice work so far.
Trans Am Erik Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 It's starting to look like a car. I hope to have the wheels on tonight. I found some Mickey-T cheater slicks for the rear and some Goodyear Polyglass for the front. The wheel backs are from funny car front runners. I want to add plug wires and fuel injection lines to the engine also.
Snake45 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 Are you going to correct the wheel opening shape on the rear fenders? That's one of the things that's always kept me from building this kit...that and the weird shape of the "spear" trim. I think I'm gonna try to graft on the rear fender "sheetmetal" from a Revell '57 Chevy, maybe, if everything will line up....
Trans Am Erik Posted October 30, 2014 Author Posted October 30, 2014 I am going to reshape the wheel wells. The Revell car will NOT line up 1:25 to 1:24 problem. I think I might mark the curve with a curve drafting tool and cut it in by hand. I am going to leave the leading edge of the wheel well alone and just reshape the trailing edge.
