gotnitro? Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 Tesla- thanks! I found quickly these kits have a very thick chrome layer. It takes the scuffing great without breaking thru
Chariots of Fire Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Very nice combination of the blue and steel. Great paint job as well!
Mopar - D Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Jeff your REO is coming along nice. I like your colors they work good together.
gotnitro? Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Thanks for the feedback! The truck I was loosely basing it from had a similar scheme. More build coming..thanks for checking in
Harry P. Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 That looks great so far. I really like your "used but not abused" idea... somehow a factory-fresh dump truck just doesn't do it.
gotnitro? Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Thanks Harry. I want to try a oil dot technique on the cab, armor trick. Trying to imply a dirty cab that's been streaked by rain
gotnitro? Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 The truck I'm basing this from gets a pole barn paint job every spring. Keeps it looking ready to work
Madd Trucker Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Looking good I like how you basicly weathered it .. waiting to see how you continue the weathering
Truck parts Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Great build and love the paint colors you used.
freightshaker Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 This is looking awesome. Gonna be a tough old diamond. Don't see many of these on the road anymore
gotnitro? Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Thanks guys, I have a few updates to photograph then I'll get them uploaded. Only thing left to build is the tarp roller for the box
gotnitro? Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Tonight I scratch built the tarp cover for the dump box. The frame "bow" is 16 thou rod , and the torsion spring mounts were made from plastic strip. I punched a few discs for the springs. Searching for suitable material for the canvas tarp, I settled on airplane tissue from lhs. A light dusting of acrylic paint, and it should look the part..
gotnitro? Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 oops, the pics uploaded backwards..you get the idea !
gotnitro? Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 The windshield received a light dusting of dullcoat to create the wiper sweep..it dried a tad heavy, but a quick swipe w Future will blend it . The kit muffler annoyed me. The sprue gates were cast right into the heat shield, and sanding them away ruined the pattern. I decided to replace the part w plastic tube, giving it an aftermarket muffler look. I'll apply a few layers of rust for the look I'm after
Tesla Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 It looks real nice Jeff! All the details make it stand out. The windshield weathering is perfect! I like how you did it...great tip
guitarsam326 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 What wheel/tire combo did you use for the drop axle?
Superpeterbilt Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 What wheel/tire combo did you use for the drop axle? It looks like a lowboy wheel with a trim ring put straight on the hub instead of the deep dish ring. It looks perfect. Lets see if Im right;)
gotnitro? Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Thanks guys! Ok, for the drop axle the tire and rim are from the Ford c600 kit.I forgot the trim ring..oops
guitarsam326 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 The c600 rim is what I'm using for the drop axle on my mixer, but yours looks spot on!
Guest Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Very nice work Jeff. I especially like the tarp roller and arms as well as the dullcote on the windshield, nice touch.
gotnitro? Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks everyone. I've just finished up the west coast mirrors, and a few small details
Nova-ss Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Looks great, I like the mods, good color and good choices.
gotnitro? Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 thanks Chris ! Seems the D/R was available in nearly any color combo, made the options tough..they all looked good I'm calling this build Done !! Enjoy the pics..
gotnitro? Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 I added chalk pastels in rust shades to the muffler to create the crusty rust seen in pics. Ordinary tap water held the powder together. The frame also received a few streaks of this mix, but kept light. The photo's don't show the dust buildup on the box very well, but it was airbrushed w Tamiya deck tan and buff along the box bottom and where dirt would spray up from traveling. Last thing I did was the warning sign on the back, a quick image search of the sign and printed off. I added this for a little color.. I was advised to add a light load to the box, since the drop axle was down. Blue foam made a fake floor, then cheap cat littler topped off the load..
