So I got this Polar Lights 55 Chevy Badboy kit at a local swapmeet/rummage sale a couple weeks ago. The kit body is lacking to say the least, but I came up with the idea of putting a 1/16 scale blown HEMI in it from a Snake Prudomme Funny car (car was in fair shape anyway.)

1st order of business was to disassemble the engine and strip/repaint parts + add more realism (strip chrome and paint/alclad as necessary)

2nd (which I am working on at this time) work on engine details : new metal lines, new blower belt, anodized fittings, new wires, and new solder fenderwell headers

3rd: Make the engine fit the small body. This became a BIG pain! I had to stretch the body at the doors another 3/4" to get the giant mill to fit between the fenders.......no hood on this Badboy!

4th: Paint the body in a scheme that was reminiscent of the 50's.......Paint is Seaside Aqua from Rustoleum (decanted and airbrushed), once dry, I will paint the roof, quarters, and trunk white.

5th: Remove shotty kit body molded-in details and add back chrome parts/lights from a '55 Chevy kit (Polar Lights kit is molded in Flo Green like a toy)

Here are some pics of where this at as of today on the last two. ENJOY!

Way cool ! I always loved the Cartoon"s magazines as a teen. The cars they use to build out of parts for an upcoming race was always interesting.

You have nailed the look of the power induced curve on the body, I cant wait to see more. B)

Thanks alot Sean! I also loved these when I was younger! I plan on using cotton for the tire smoke and will do flames out of the headers (maybe even an arm sticking out holding the 8 ball shifter!) :D

Diggin' it! B)

Thanks Jeff! Glad you like it

Looks cool...but you need to fix your blower belt and put it over the pulley rather then under it encase you didn't know

Thanks for the heads up! Got her fixed now.

very, very kool :D

Thank you Frank!

Actually, I believe it was correct on the first pictures. That pulley tightens up the belt and it should be installed just like it is on the pics.

Interesting project. I can't wait to see more as that body is looking really wild like that!

Nice fix on the fenders to make room for that Hemi, I have that same chevy kit so will keep this modification in mind, thanks. Also now that halloween is happening you might want ( for tire smoke) to get some cobwebbing from Michaels, it stretches, can be scrunched into balls and mounted around rough wire, also can be tinted with chalks. See example.post-14542-0-96957600-1414356996_thumb.j

How is that correct, the blower belt would fly off like that......i build custom hotrods and never seen a blower with the belt setup like that... heres a pic of a blown hemi and Don Prudhommes actual car

Back in the 60's and 70's the belt went inside of the tension pulley. Newer set ups run 'em on the outside... What the difference is, I have no clue....

After all, it IS a cartoon build anyway.... Just saying!!!

Looks kool Ken....

Years ago, I saw an article in a 1:1 car mag where a guy had installed a Hemi in his '55 Chevy. So, it's been done - for real!

Go for it, Ken!

Thanks for posting the picture Glenn.......I thought I had seen it routed that way in the past. That was why I originally routed that way. No biggie though, like I said a few posts up....I re-routed the belt.

Thanks for the support guys! Just wanted to build something REAL FUN!! Currently I am working on the engine while the Seaside Aqua is curing....then on to the White (then BMF)!

It's ok Branndon. I have seen the belt positioned both ways. So it is right either way it is done! :D

*Will have pics soon.......tonight I finished building the one header (silver solder primaries into a tube collector.) Needs Alclad yet.

Here you go. Yesterday and today's progress on the engine........still a LONG way to go! The headers were a pain to get fitted and built in the true CARtoons style but now are ready for paint :huh:The holes and ruffstuff on the front of the blower are from items removed from the 1st build on the engine.......they will be re-installed and detailed. Also, BTW.....I (wet)colorsanded the car body again and re-coated with the aqua.
