Monty Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Just wanted to see if anyone had had any experience with airbrushing water-based acrylics over standard hobby enamels and/or lacquers (Think racing stripes, multi-colored seats etc). If so, how well did they adhere? I'm hoping to get some answers based on experience because I've got some shades of acrylics that would look great with some of my other non-acrylic paints, but I really don't want to do the whole set-up-spray-clean-up process to find out if they'll work. TIA for all helpful replies, pics, etc.
Chillyb1 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Yes, they will. I use Tamiya acrylics thinned with lacquer thinner and they adhere perfectly over whatever surface at which I aim the airbrush. I think there are lots of water-based acrylics available, so you may have something else in mind. My experience is solely with Tamiya.
Miatatom Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 I use Tamiya primer and have shot hobby grade acrylics over it for chassis. Works fine!
