FASTBACK340 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 While gathering parts for my Baja project I need tires. On my old car I had oversized VW Bus snow tires up front and a set of snow tires from a Chevy Blazer out back. I was thinking maybe the MPC generic snow tires from the 60's (Jeepster, etc) and a pair from the MPC Mount'nGoat Keep kit. Any other ideas or recommendations for sourcing these or similar tires? Thanks!
Guest Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I don't think you want the Mount N Goat tires. They're actually 1/16 scale tires and require a big wheel. IIRC, it scales out to something like 20 or 21 inches in 1/25. The earlier issued MPC Commando and various other 4X4 kits (Chevy pickups and Ford vans) have a set of pretty decent Desert Dogs in the right size. Alan Raab along with some others casts a few different sets of off road tires. Here's a photo of my Commando with the smaller Desert Dog tires. I can check to see if I have an extra pair if those will work for what you want. edit: Someone else that is casting off road tires is Chief Joseph (Fireball Modelworks). Check with him to see what he has. Edited November 1, 2014 by plowboy

FASTBACK340 Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 I took the liberty of re-posting John's old pic of his Bug so we can match some wheels & tires I'm gonna dig thru my stash to see what looks right... Thanks for re-posting one of the few pictures I have of that car….. Any assistance I can get on the wheels & tires would be greatly appreciated. It's one of those "I'll know it when I see it" situations unfortunately. As blurred as the 80's are, I remember that car distinctly.
jeffs396 Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 John, here's what I came up with from my stash: The rear tires represented here are the front tires from Revell's old Datsun stepside pickup with dirt bikes and trailer...spoke wagon wheels (these are six-lug, you'd have to redo the centers for your four-lug) are from an old MPC Chevy pickup. You would have to narrow the front rims, but they have the spoke shape you need. The fronts are MPC Goodyear Suburbanites. Mocked up on a Tamiya Beetle...
FASTBACK340 Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 (edited) I'll be &^%$%^….. PM sent. Those look REALLY close! And Bill has offered the 8 spoke rims. This is all good, thanks guys! I should be able to make this happen. The wheels Bill has offered (if they're the ones I'm thinking of) are Jackmans, which is what I had. The ones your showing would be plan B. Thank you!
