10thumbs Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Hi guys, does anyone know of a source for these slicks? Not the ones that are depicted as being launched and wrinkling from motion, but the soft looking slicks that wrinkle properly while the car is sitting, or idling. Snake45 Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Some of the mid/late '60s AMT cars had these molded in styrene. It's possible these are being reproed by someone.
my80malibu Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 The monogram Cop Out kit has slicks like that. The MPC 66 GTO had some hard plastic styrene molded two piece versions as well, those were Pie Crust old school style.
High octane Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Have you checked with Competition Resins or Speed City Resins?
10thumbs Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 The Monogram kit has the ones I'm interested in. I like the way they look. Nick, they don't have them. They have the "car moving" type. I just have a problem with the car body is tilted up, no driver, but the slicks are about to spin off the rims. Michael
southpier Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 calnaga castings has some that aren't going too fast
Casey Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 The Monogram kit has the ones I'm interested in. I like the way they look. All the Monogram kits have the wrinkles going the same direction, so they only look correct on one side of the vehicle. Probably best to avoid those. AMT did several styles and brands, just depends upon how much wrinkle is right for you, and the width you're looking for:
10thumbs Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Joe, yeah there just starting to dig in, not too fast yet. Casey, those are getting close, especially the one on the right. Flattened looks good too! Thanks. Here is a somewhat fuzzy pic of what I'm looking for; Some wrinkles can be seen while the car sits. I'll do more research. Michael
10thumbs Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Yep, although that slick is fairly deflated, but that's the look. I haven't seen them anywhere. Michael
